If you’ve been sticking to the Portland or Greater Portland area, chances are slim you’ve trialled Ferment Brewing Company’s entry into canning.

Like so many other breweries, coping with the realities of operating in a pandemic, Hood River’s Ferment Brewing Company recently announced they were committing to expanded packaging, beyond their on-demand canning. With the focus being literally from top to bottom, the brewery is happy to announce a line of lagers and ales, available as riffs instead of flagships.

In these worrisome and uncertain times, it’s the little things that brighten our days––video chats with family, reaching out to an old friend, taking up a new hobby, cooking, gardening, and relishing cold cans of beer…This spring, we at Ferment have been playing around with some fun new recipes and canning them off for you to enjoy while in your pajamas cutting your own hair.

With their first release, Top Ferment, the brewery has released a beer called Bright West. Brewed as a refreshing and inspired India Pale Ale, Bright West puts on an exhibition using Pilsner malt from the Midwest and classic Northwest hops including Chinook, Mosaic, and Cascade. The result is a beer that is a hair over sessionable, at 6.5% ABV but inviting enough to take your mind off of anxiety brought on by social distancing.

Continuing the rendition, the brewery releases its first bottom fermenting lager in Kaleidoscope. Brewed to be a kellerbier, this marks the breweries first release in the category.

Inspired by the unfiltered European lagers of the old country, Bottom Ferment Kaleidoscope makes use of classic Saaz, Tettanger hops and Northwest nouveau hops in Loral and Crystal. Through this blend, the brewery hopes you take the rendition of Spring in a can with your on hikes, backyard barbecues, or after an interminable day of yard work.

Rounding out this announcement is the word that legendary artist, Eric Pollard, has provided the iconic artwork on the cans.

Available in Hood River or in Portland, look for singles or four-packs of Ferment Brewing Company’s Top Ferment and Bottom Ferment at the brewery, the Gorge, Portland, and the Greater Portland area.
