Featuring four celebratory releases, Lucky Envelope Brewing invites all to celebrate the Year of the Metal Ox.

Despite being nearly a year since the global pandemic started, there are businesses who continue to support hope. Breweries, like Seattle’s Lucky Envelope, continues to recognize the importance of normalcy. Which is why the brewery is inviting everyone to join in the Chinese New Year.

Starting on February 12th and 13th, celebrating the Year of the Metal Ox, Lucky Envelope invites all to stop by for an outdoor pint or takeout. Breaking it down the brewery had this to say about what to expect.

Seattle craft beer enthusiasts can look forward to several exciting Lunar New Year beer releases that can be enjoyed at the Tasting Room or at home. From a new Coffee-Vanilla rendition of our Double Happiness Barrel-Aged Imperial Porter to limited draft releases— including the Mijiaya Historic Chinese Beer— there will be something to satisfy every kind of beer lover.

Recognizing the importance of the Metal Ox in 2021, Lucky Envelope is releasing a special “Metal Ox Juicy IPA”. A collaboration with North Carolina’s Highland Brewing, this also celebrates both Chinese-American owned breweries’ collaborative efforts.

Also, the brewery has hinted there will be Year of the Metal Ox merchandise, and draft offering both February 12th (from noon to 9 pm) and 13th (noon to 9 pm). For more on this, here’s what the brewery had to say.

Year of the Metal Ox Lucky Envelope t-shirts ($15) and metallic stickers ($1) will be available to purchase. A limited number of red envelopes containing discounts and giveaways will be given out to customers beginning at open on each respective day.

The Lucky Envelope Tasting Room will be operating at regular capacity with outdoor seating available for on-site consumption. Seating is limited and a table waitlist will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Metal Ox Juicy IPA and Double Happiness cans will be listed on the webstore at 12am on Friday the 12th. Beers with limited draft availability will be released at open and available to order in-person until tapped out. We encourage those eager to taste all beer offerings to arrive early.

Our staff will continue to serve delicious beer and maintain as safe an environment as possible with thorough sanitization practices and the enforcement of state mandated safety measures. We ask guests to be patient with our staff and respectful of the guidelines outlined for their visit to our Tasting Room.

But for those who can’t make the party, here are the beers that will be released at the party.

About Lucky Envelope Brewing

Lucky Envelope’s brewing philosophy is centered around “Culturally Inspired Beer” whose recipes draw from modern and historic brewing styles and techniques. In addition, Lucky Envelope also uses both traditional and non-traditional ingredients in our beers which range from traditional IPAs (ENIAC Mosaic IPA), to German-style lagers (Helles Lager), to seasonal favorites like our Two Pepper Pale Ale (Habanero & Shishito peppers) and Peanut Butter Cream Stout.

The name Lucky Envelope comes from the Chinese tradition of the elderly generation giving the younger generation red envelopes filled with paper money. The color red is meant to ward off evil spirits and bring good health, while the money inside is supposed to bring prosperity. The Mandarin word for the envelope “hongbao” translates to red pouch while the Cantonese word for the envelope “laisee” translates to lucky money. Many refer to the envelopes as red envelope, or Lucky Envelope. For Barry and Ray, lucky envelopes bring back good memories whether it was a Chinese New Year celebration, graduating from school, or celebrating a life milestone.
