Get to know Four Winds Brewing's first-ever Imperial Stout, Boreas.
During the early months of the year, when the skies are blanketed in gray and ashen white, when the wind is cold and gnarly, folks seek the comfort of warmth. For some this is a cup of herbal tea, while others seek the kick from a cup of coffee, while others seek alcohol. Mind you, the latter isn’t “technically” warming you with temperature, but it still provides a mental therapy. Recognizing the importance of a ‘warming’ drink, Delta’s Four Winds Brewing took this opportunity to release their first ever Imperial Stout.
Like so many of their beers, Four Winds’ Imperial Stout is barrel-aged. Resting comfortably in previous use, Kentucky bourbon barrels, Boreas is a 9.5% ABV (alcohol by volume) reward in a bottle.

Described by the brewery as having notes of “... chocolate, vanilla, and baked sweets while flavours of American oak, toasted cocoa, and coffee…” Boreas is a welcome addition from Four Winds. Also, the name is fitting given Boreas represents the Greek god of the North Wind and Winter.
Like all their limited-edition releases, this can currently be found at the brewery’s taproom. But for those not willing to make the trip, the brewery is shipping cases to liquor stores across the province.
