Like the virus, COVID-19, essential businesses are evolving to support both their businesses and the customers that rely on them.

For the food and beverage industry, it started with social distancing and round-the-clock sanitizing of surfaces, glassware, and serving ware. Now with a stay at home order in at least two of the states, essential businesses (like restaurants) have developed takeout or delivery. Unfortunately, some businesses have laid off or furloughed staff and those that remain endure fatigue and the question of when or if they will become a statistic of COVID-19.

For one of Seattle’s oldest craft beer alehouses, the Latona Pub took a hiatus after giving takeout and delivery a go. But like so many businesses, the Latona Pub has been reevaluating how the Latona could continue to sell beer and food to go, while minimizing the risk to its staff and its loyal customers.

One of the goals of our hiatus was to take a step back and examine the things we can do differently to provide a safe and welcoming customer experience. We came up with some pretty cool ideas moving forward, such as weekly specials that you can pre-order, crowlers, and some take n’ bake style entrees for those nights that you want to cook, but don’t have the time or energy to prep. In the future, we’re also working on a delivery model to bring the Latona to your doorstep.

The break gave some much needed time to catch our breath and figure out some new ways of doing things while we all wait for things to approach some sense of normalcy as we used to know it.

Now, at last, the Pub has announced they are resuming operations, albeit with limited hours. Starting this Wednesday, May 6th, the Latona Pub will be open from 4 pm to 8 pm. Current operating hours from this Wednesday on will be Wednesday thru Sunday, 4 pm - 8 pm.

Drinks and food to-go.

At opening, look for growlers, pints-to-go, cans, bottles of wine and cider and (possibly) canned cocktails and hard kombucha. As they stated before, General Manager Matt Carter and chef James are also gearing up to sell meals, ready to bake, for those who hate the experience of lukewarm food.

Changes to how you pay

Like so many businesses, the Latona Pub has joined the 21st and ⅕ century by offering online ordering and payment. This includes the aforementioned alcohol and wine, ready to go in about 30 minutes.

We’ve also reconfigured our credit card system so that all you’ll have to do when you get here is tap or insert your card. We’ll punch in the total and print your receipt for you—you never touch the terminal, and we never touch the card—then you’ll just sign the receipt using a pre-sanitized pen.

An automatic gratuity of 18% will be added to all take-out orders. Anything above and beyond is always appreciated, but not expected or necessary!

Should you wish to walk up and order, the skeleton duo of Matt and James ask that you respect their policy of only 2 people, in the building, at a time. Above all they not only ask for your patience and understanding but share this.

Thanks for all the support you’ve given and continue to give us, and thank you for making us your neighborhood pub during these bizarre and difficult times. We look forward to serving you once again, cheers!
