Earth Day, April 22nd. A time to share the spiritual with the metaphysical and the scientific. A time when all must realize that this planet is changing either impacted by man or by nature. It's a time to turn off the television, put down the iPad, and volunteer to plant a tree, clean a beach or roadside. It's also the inspiration behind Latona Pub's Earth Week celebration.
Starting on April 13th, with the march of the kegs, and continuing all this week. The Latona Pub encourages all breweries to cast aside their combustible engines and instead rely on the most primitive of engines, one's legs complimented with a hand truck or cart. With breweries traveling from Olympia, North Fork, Anacortes or as nearby as the University District, all to deliver a keg in solidarity with the environment.
As a sort of celebration of these breweries' willingness to support a natural form of transportation, the 'Pub is hosting Feet First on April 18th, and organization dedicated to improve pedestrian access in Seattle. Following Feet First, owner Bob Brenlin will celebrate Earth Day (a day early), on April 21st with partial proceeds going to Brewshed Alliance.
The Latona strives to be a place not only to discuss the future of the planet, but also to foster a discussion about the steps we can all take to effect change. Our keg walks are a means to raise awareness about the environmental issues that have an impact not only on the brewing community, but the community at large. We welcome you to join us during the week to celebrate our planet and highlight these important issues.
