A brewery holiday tradition, in Seattle, Maritime Pacific's Jolly Roger Christmas Ale is back.

With the current prospects for a “trick or treat” filled Halloween next to nil, it seems fitting that already people are looking forward to Thanksgiving and yes, Christmas. Which is probably why so many breweries are hard at work on Wintery ales and lagers, including Seattle’s beloved Maritime Pacific Brewing Company.

Located in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood, Maritime Pacific Brewing Company is happy to announce the return of their holiday Christmas Ale, Jolly Roger.

Annually released, just in time for chilly nights when the skies turn twilight quicker, Jolly Roger is a hearty, malt-fueled ale with a depth of hop character upfront. Made from a proprietary blend of malted barleys and wheat and three unique hops, the Maritime Pacific’s George Hancock has this to share about 2020’s edition.

For this year’s Jolly, we are using over 1.5 tons of NW Premium 2 row malted barley in every batch, with the addition of 4 different specialty malts for that distinctive malt character and color which make Jolly Roger so appealing.  For our specialty malts, we went to Washington’s own Skagit Valley Malting Company, drawing on them to supply us with their Wheat, C30, C70 and Munich malts. Skagit’s addition to this year’s recipe has contributed greatly to Jolly’s overall complexity.  The seasoning , we like to say, of this year’s Jolly comes from our hop additions. We called on Washington’s own Yakima Valley to supply us with our hops. A blend of Chinook, Cascade and Amarillo hops give that wonderful spice note so identified with Jolly Roger every year.

New for 2020, the brewery has elected to release Jolly Roger Christmas Ale on draft and in 16-ounce cans. And at 9.5% abv (alcohol by volume) and 55 IBU (international bittering units), Jolly Roger Christmas Ale comes with a caution - drink more than one at your peril.

Available at most specialty bottle shops, grocers, and select Costco Wholesale locations, get your hands on a true Seattle, holiday tradition - Maritime Pacific Jolly Roger Christmas Ale.
