Eugene brewery Oakshire Brewing issues recall related to exploding can risk.

Announced on Monday, January 25th, Oakshire Brewing company is asking consumers to double-check their homes for a beer released on January 16th.

Hailing from Eugene, Oregon, the brewery has issued a recall for their Theme From the Bottom: Mango Raspberry Cheesecake Smoothie Sour Ale (Theme Mango Cheesecake), released in 16oz cans (pictured below), after discovering evidence of “refermentation” after the beer left their brewery. If you’ve purchased this beer, look for “... visible signs of “refermentation” which will cause the can to bulge. Sometimes this will eventually lead to the can bursting or exploding.

As this beer was pre-sold via an online process, the brewery has reached out to those who purchased Theme From the Bottom: Mango Raspberry Cheesecake Smoothie Sour Ale (Theme Mango Cheesecake). Oakshire Brewing has confirmed it does not associate the issue with other beers made by the brewery.

If you were not someone who purchased this beer directly from the brewery, but through a secondary market, Oakshire Brewing is advising the following.

If you have Theme Mango Cheesecake in your possession, please do not open it. Do not attempt to transport or ship it. Do not attempt to return it. And do not remove the cans from the plastic holders. Dispose of the product by following these steps: (i) Before disposing of any cans of Theme Mango Cheesecake, please put on protective gloves and a face shield (or goggles and a mask); (ii) Place all remaining Theme Mango Cheesecake cans in a closed box and place immediately in a secured garbage container or dumpster outside.

To reassure customers this is an isolated incident, the brewery still has confidence in their “innovative beers”, like the Theme From the Bottom series.

The brewery also wishes to reassure people that consuming Theme From the Bottom: Mango Raspberry Cheesecake Smoothie Sour Ale (Theme Mango Cheesecake) is safe. Anyone who has opened a can or consumed it onsite at Oakshire’s two taprooms is not in danger.

If you have questions regarding the recall, contact Oakshire Brewing at theme@oakbrew.com or phone them directly at 541-654-5524.

Again, if you have unopened From the Bottom: Mango Raspberry Cheesecake Smoothie Sour Ale (Theme Mango Cheesecake) and would like a refund or credit towards a future release, email the brewery using the address listed.
