Introducing Action-Reaction. A collaboration, between Fremont Brewing Company and New Belgium Brewing, two years in the making.

Like so many collaborations in the beer industry, it starts during a conversation. These days, that conversation occurs not sitting at a table but an internet video call or email. But this one’s special because it involved two exciting breweries both with a breadth of experience in barrel-aging. But all this wouldn’t have occurred without a chance meeting between Joe Kirpes, a Sales Representative from Fremont Brewing Company and New Belgium, at the “Treefort Music & Beer Festival”.

Back in 2019, as the music played and the imbibers swayed, Joe and New Belgium discussed how Seattle’s Fremont Brewing Company and Fort Collins’ New Belgium Brewing Company could make a beer together. The result is a blended sour made from one part Fremont B-Bomb and one part New Belgium’s Sour Lager, Oscar. Introducing Action-Reaction.

We started with Fremont’s B-Bomb, a bourbon barrel-aged imperial winter ale. This was it! The aromas completely engulf you in toffee, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and barrel char. Add to that our Oscar dark sour lager, and boom: A beer that starts intensely sweet and thick, warm and boozy with a perfect balance of sourness and does not let up. It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you need an inside sweater this winter season, it fits quite well.” Said New Belgium’s Lauren Limbach, Wood Cellar Director and Blender

Chances are, you’ve seen this beer on the shelf at local bottle shops and grocery stores.

Distributed by New Belgium Brewing Company, the beer got an early release wherever New Belgium’s beer was sold. But Fremont realizes that not everyone shops where New Belgium beers are sold, so they are selling some at their brewery.

Starting on January 28th, Fremont Brewing Company is selling a select amount of Action-Reaction online from 12 pm until its sold out. With a scheduled pickup of January 30th, you’re invited to judge for yourself what a Nitro Barrel-aged Sour Stout means to you.
