Make a wish, that you get your hands on Mother Earth Brewing's latest 4Seasons release, Bourbon Barrel-aged Coconut Cake Imperial Stout.

Buckle up and wear a helmet, ladies and gentleman.

No, this isn’t a lecture on riding a bike or taking your dad’s longboard out. This is the latest 4Seasons release from Mother Earth Brewing Company.

Known for being super limited and frustratingly hard to find Mother Earth’s latest salivate-inspiring beer is Bourbon Barrel-aged Coconut Cake Imperial Stout. Wow! That’s name is a larger mouthful than an actual Coconut Cake!

If you are reading up to this point and thinking, “Oh, great, another lactose beer”, the brewery wants you to know this beer wasn’t made cheaply.

For starters, the beer called for 150lbs of coconut, 100lbs of custom roasted Ecuadorean Cacao Nibs, and the Madagascar Vanilla used for depth and perceived sweetness wasn’t cheap either. Throughout the process, the brewers hope you will sip, not gulp (or shotgun) this beer. Take a moment to savor the sweet dessert-like qualities that are held up by a stout bitterness. Finally, the brewers and those who care about this release, ask you to let it warm up. Unlike that cake, this can wait awhile before taking it all in.

TLDR; It’s loaded with buckets of coconut, chocolate, vanilla, and lactose (duh!), Mother Earth’s Demi-god (technically, Director) of Operations, Chris Baker was not short on words to describe this release.

Melding flavors like coconut and chocolate to achieve balance is very difficult. The base beer itself is pretty complex so we didn’t want the adjuncts to steal the show entirely. What you’re getting here is a very complex ale with oak, caramelized sugar, and coconut dominating the palate, with a silky mouthfeel and dessert-like finish. We selected German and English noble hop varieties to harmonize with the earthy tones of flaked rye and dark crystal malts. This brew is a malt-bomb through and through.

Roughly translated, this beer will taste like your 10th birthday, if they took the cake, a glass of milk, and put it all in a blender. Oh, and don’t let your 10-year-old drink alcohol. Sorry, Timmy!

Now comes the stress-inducing part, it’s going to be a limited release, in limited quantities and the pandemic isn’t helping!

So if you choose to pick this up at a taproom, in Vista or Nampa, you might have to be socially distant. You know, like you’ll be when someone asks to include your prized Bourbon Barrel-aged Coconut Cake Imperial Stout at the next bottle share.

Look for 4Seasons Spring ‘21 in 16oz cans and (very) limited draft at various locations. If you want to track this down from the comfort of your couch or improvised dining-room office, visit findmotherearthbrewing.com.
