Known scientifically as Thuja plicata, the Western Red Cedar is a voluminous tree with a height of between 213 to 230 ft. Listed as a species of tree without concern of extinction, the Western Red Cedar is a growth that inspires awe of its height and its perceived medicinal applications. Besides inspiring personal reflection, the tree is valued by the Salish tribe who use its wood for everything from canoes to caskets. It is a tree of life for all who recognize its uniqueness to the region.

Using the cedar boughs, Bothell-based Foggy Noggin Brewing intends to extract the essence within the Western Red Cedar. Much like the herbalist and Naturopath, the brewery ponders what reaction will occur between wood and beer. Introducing Cedar Bough Experimental IPA.

This stay at home order got our creative juices flowing and we decided to harvest 3 pounds of freshly cut new growth western red cedar boughs and boil them into this IPA. The result is outstanding!

Described by the brewery as having delicate cedar tones which blend, harmoniously, with the hoppy character; Cedar Bough is a 7.8% ABV (alcohol by volume) and 79 IBU (international bittering units) exhibition on the creative brewer. And it's only available in growlers this weekend.

Starting Friday and running till Sunday, Foggy Noggin is offering curbside pickup, while supplies last.
