More on what makes Western Red Cedar special.

This tree wasn’t only used for everyday items, but also has numerous medicinal properties. T. plicata possesses effective antifungal and antibacterial properties. Indigenous people used parts of the tree for treatment of stomach aches, colds, toothaches, arthritis and other illnesses or pains (Plants…c1996-2012). The leaves are used to make tinctures that help with a variety of fungal infections like ringworm and athletes foot. Tinctures or teas can help with bronchial conditions, soothe sore muscles and help with reproductive problems. Western red cedar is also an immunostimulant and small daily doses can help to prevent respiratory and intestinal infections (Moore Michael 1993). The Colville tribe used an infusion of the branches as dandruff or other scalp infections shampoo (Moerman 1998).

Taking a cue from herbalists and our countries Native Americans, Foggy Noggin used fresh cut Western Red Cedar boughs, and put them into the boil. Akin to making a tea with this word, the intent is to replicate the process used by herbalists. Reflecting on the first batch and the process, Foggy Noggin Brewing founding brewer and co-owner, Jim Jamison, shares this.

The stay at home order (2020) got our creative juices flowing and we decided to harvest 3 pounds of freshly cut new growth western red cedar boughs and boil them into this IPA. The result is outstanding! Delicious delicate cedar tones mingle well with the hoppy character of this wonderfully balanced IPA.

Available as of May 14th, 2022, at their taproom, and in limited quantities, Cedar Bough IPA won't be around for long. And at 7.8% ABV and 79 IBU, it shouldn't disappoint those who seek it out before it departs again.

Finally, the brewery would like to state the following disclaimer.
