Out now, Portland’s Gigantic Brewing is pleased to share two fresh beers in Smackdab Hazy IPA and Colossal Panthera IPA, their collaboration with Aslan Brewing Company.
A hybrid of both the East Coast and West Coast approaches to the India Pale Ale, Gigantic’s Smackdab is hazy with citrus notes, but with a slight bite in the finish. Owing to the tropical, juicy character; the brewers used the help of Mosaic and Citra hops.
On the outside of the bottle, in keeping with the brewery’s support of independent-artists, one can admire tattoo artist Brad Delay’s design. An artist at Historic Tattoo since 2008, Delay not only has made a name for himself in the tattoo community but also through his detailed, “dreamlike”, oil paintings. Following up on Smackdab, Gigantic enlisted the help of Bellingham (Washington) based Aslan Brewing to create their second April collaboration.

Dubbed Collssal [sic] Panthera, both breweries had a shared love of new hops by acquiring Styrian Dragon and Styrian Wolf. A hop unique to Slovenia, both hops produce aromas and flavors of tropical fruit and berries. The result is a beer that is “... super tropical, and citrusy IPA that’s loaded with notes of passion fruit, mango, citrus, and berry.”
For Colossal Panthera’s artwork, Gigantic selected artist Connor McPherson. It was after a visit to Aslan Brewing, that Gigantic co-owner Ben Love was inspired to hire McPherson.
“I visited Aslan last fall and saw all of the amazing mural art that Connor has done in their brewery. When we started talking about which artist we should ask to do the label art for our collaboration, Connor was the clear choice”
