PORTLAND, Ore. … Von Ebert Brewing, the award-winning and locally owned, Portland-based brewing company, was recognized with awards and honors this week by three separate organizations - the Oregon Beer Awards, the Oregon Brewers Guild, and Willamette Week.

At the Oregon Beer Awards, held on February 18, Von Ebert took home four medals - three gold and one bronze:

  • Gold Medal: Volatile Substance in the Fresh Hop Pale Ales and IPAs category

  • Gold Medal: Vienna Lager in the Light German and European Lagers category

  • Gold Medal: Rauch Helles in the Coffee and Smoke Beers category

  • Bronze Medal: Never Tell in the Imperial IPA category

Known around the state as the Oscars of Oregon, the Oregon Beer Awards is an annual event honoring the best in beer from the past year. This year, 81 professional brewers, cicerones, journalists, and other beer experts served as judges, tasting 1,260 beers in a double-blind format to determine medalists in 30 categories.

Recognition as World Class Brewery

On the same night as the Oregon Beer Awards, Willamette Week’s 2020 Guide to Oregon Beer, widely viewed as the Michelin Guide for Oregon beer, was released to the public. Von Ebert received the Guide’s highest honor, a two star rating, indicating it is a world class brewery that stands in a class of its own. Only 11 of the more than 300 breweries in Oregon received the two star rating this year.

Additionally, the Guide to Oregon Beer also released its list of the Top 10 Beers in Oregon and Von Ebert’s Belgian-style Pale, Known Presence, was recognized as the 2nd best beer in the state.

Most Innovative Brewery in Oregon

The night before the Oregon Beer Awards, Von Ebert was recognized as Innovator of the Year by the Oregon Brewers Guild at its 2020 Annual Meeting. This recognition was determined by a vote of the Board of the Brewers Guild.

“To say I am proud of our showing this week would be an understatement,” said Tom S. Cook, owner of Von Ebert Brewing. “Our mission this year was to ‘be our best’ and I truly believe we are living that mission and building something truly special. Our entire team is making that happen and I am so proud to be a part of this team.”
