A “Baltic Porter”, A Night in Tallinn’s name is derived from the capital city in Estonia. Brewed to be a beefier, 7.4% ABV (alcohol by volume) the use of single decoction creates a beer that is both smooth and with a strength needed from Winter beers. Unlike its American and English ‘cousins’, this beer benefits from an extended fermentation, through the use of a colder-tolerant yeast.

The result is a rich and chocolatey beer with dried fruit flavors and a feeling of winter cheer.

Like so many beers before it, A Night in Tallinn started as a draft-exclusive release before recently being promoted to cans.

Like newborn siblings on the shelf, A Night in Tallinn joins Motueka Pils, which is also onboard for canning.

Designed to be an evolving concept release, with the goal of showcasing the “Modern Pilsner”, Motueka Pils might inspire discussion. With a base recipe, firmly grounded around the classic, some say traditional approach, Motueka was first released in May of this year.

Focussed on showcasing the use of New Zeland hop variety, Motueka, the beer acquired a unique character with notes of tropical fruit and balanced bitterness.

The beer has flavors of limeade, tangelo, and juicy fruit, with a 4.9% ABV.

When asked about why a Pilsner made sense when minds are drifting something darker, Lead Brewer and Blender, Jason Hansen, said.

Summer is starting in the Southern Hemisphere and we thought this was the perfect beer to bring some of that southern sunshine to counteract the classic late autumn weather we’re now experiencing here in the Pacific Northwest…

Look for both A Night in Tallinn and Motueka Pils at the brewery, this Friday, in 16-ounce four-packs.
