With December slowly winding down, Von Ebert invites you to celebrate the end of 2020 with something old and something new, from their latest expression of canned lagers. Released for the first time and in cans, Von Ebert is pleased to announce the release of Bohemian Dark Lager.

At 5.1% abv (alcohol by volume) Bohemian Dark Lager is a decocted dark lager, showcasing a rich mouthfeel and flavors of biscuit and chocolate-covered raisins. A sturdy tasting beer to be sure, Bohemian is designed for brisk temps and hearty stove top soups and stews. As Jason Hanson, Lead Brewer and Blender at Von Ebert Glendoveer, puts it.

In a land known best for Pilseners, the Czechs also make a great dark beer that’s popular in the area, but not seen much outside of Bohemia. Referred to in Czechia as tmavé pivo, Bohemian Dark Lager can be thought of as a cousin to Schwarzbier and Dunkel in the same way that German Pils and Czech Pils are related, but still quite different overall.

Not satisfied with making a unique lager for Winter, the brewery designed a label which takes inspiration from its “cultural roots”. Showcasing the colors of the current flag for Czechia, look for small icons, symbols, and colors unique to the country.

Looking back at 2020, Von Ebert is pleased to re-release their Pierre Le Chat, French Pilsner.

Brewed in the Italian style, this beer is a marriage of French and Italian techniques, resulting in a beer that is light at 4.8% abv.

Pierre Le Chat is our dry-hopped, Italian-inspired pilsner that’s brewed with 100% French malt and hops,” explained Hanson. “Italian pilsners combine the classic hoppy crispness of a Northern German Pils with newer European aroma hops. We took that concept and focused on French hops. We dry-hopped with a hop called Barbe Rouge (red beard), which displays big red cherry notes, and used Aramis and Strisselspalt on the hot side. French hops are grown predominantly in the region of Alsace, which borders Germany. They don’t grow much acreage, but the varieties have really unique characteristics.”

With notes of strawberry leaf, the sensation of being in a hayloft, and impressions of lemon peel, Pierre Le Chat is a positive reminder that 2020 isn’t as bad.

Look for both Bohemian Dark Lager and Pierre Le Chat, available in 16-ounce four-packs at both Von Ebert locations in Portland’s Glendoveer and Pearl neighborhoods. Besides canned, this beer will be on draft at both locations.
