Press Release

Seattle, WA: Burke-Gilman Brewing Company recently won the title of Alpha King 2020 for Hopotheosis Fresh-Hopped Double India Pale Ale, and a gold medal from the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) Competition for Hopsplainer Hazy Double India Pale Ale. Owners and team members celebrated the two wins within hours of each other, as award ceremonies were held virtually on the same day this year.

“We brought home not one, but two awards this past week,” says Kenneth Trease, Co-Founder of Burke-Gilman Brewing Company. “Not only did we medal in this year’s GABF Competition, but Hopotheosis won the Alpha King Challenge for the most well-balanced, drinkable beer over 60 IBUs. This is only the second time in the event’s 22-year history that a Washington brewery has earned the title. We’re proud of Phil’s award-winning effort and the attention it brings to Seattle’s vibrant craft brewing community.”

“Winning gold at GABF this year for Hopsplainer Hazy DIPA is incredibly exciting for us,” says Phil Pescheck, Head Brewer. “The Competition is in its 34th year now, with nearly 9,000 entries across thousands of breweries. To win in a crowded category with such good company is an honor, and we’re thankful to the Brewers Association for making it possible during such challenging times. Cheers to local craft!”

Burke-Gilman Brewing Company occupies 2,800 square feet of space in Seattle’s historic Northeast, and features a 7 BBL automated brewhouse, eight 7 BBL fermenting tanks, four brite/serving tanks and to-go packaging capabilities, with an annual production capacity of 750 BBL.
