Press Release

Yakima, Wash. – October 21, 2020 – Bale Breaker Brewing Company, a family-owned brewery located in the beautiful Yakima Valley, today announces that it won a silver at GABF 2020 for Hazy L IPA, the 12oz hazy that was added to their year-round lineup this January.

Hazy L IPA debuted in a 12oz can in January 2020, after a year of refining the recipe with over 30 hazy variations in order to get the taste and quality exactly right. Hazy L IPA showcases Bale Breaker’s homegrown hops with an approachable bitterness and a crisp body that makes it the perfect hazy IPA for everyday drinking. It’s a nod to ripe East Coast hazies with a West Coast spin, featuring Citra®, Sabro™ and Mosaic® hops grown by the family’s hop farm, Loftus Ranches. The name Hazy L is a call to the co-owner’s great-grandparents’ B.T. and Leota Mae Loftus’ cattle brand ‘Lazy L’.

“With nearly 9,000 entries from 1,720 breweries from all 50 states, we were beyond thrilled and honored when our Hazy L IPA was awarded a silver medal for Juicy or Hazy Pale Ale.  As one of our team members said, ‘In the beer industry, this is like winning an Olympic medal,’” said Bale Breaker co-owner and brewmaster Kevin Smith. “It’s remarkable to us to be in such amazing company at GABF – and to see Washington and the Pacific Northwest win so many awards was just the icing on the cake.”

To allow customers to join Bale Breaker in celebrating this win, the brewery will be offering free shipping on cases of Hazy L IPA on their online beerstore(shipping to WA customers only) from Thursday, October 22 through Sunday, October 25, as well as selling 6pks of Hazy L at a 20% discount at their weekly curbside pick-up hours (Thursdays and Fridays, 3-6pm; Saturdays, 12-5pm) from October 22 through October 24. 6pks of Hazy L IPA are also available throughout WA, OR, and ID, including at large grocers such as Fred Meyer, QFC, and Safeway.
