Deschutes Brewery re-releases Chainbreaker, and shares taproom-exclusives Boysenberry Dissident and Blue Butterfly.

As the father of the Northwest Portland, lovingly known as Black Butte, Deschutes Brewery recognizes the importance of nostalgia. This might explain why the brewery has announced the return of Chainbreaker, named after one of Bend’s favorite mountain bike competitions. Returning this Fall, for a limited time, the brewery took 4 years to change their mind.

“Fans have been asking for its return since 2016, and the yeast, wheat and hop driven flavor profile is having a bit of a comeback as well,” said Deschutes' Product Development Director, Veronica Vega. “It’s exciting to align the evolving flavor preference of craft beer drinkers with the return of Chainbreaker, and remembering how refreshing it can be to just get out on a bike.”

Originally brewed out of inspiration for a new hybrid style, called Belgian IPA, Chainbreaker start as a Belgian-style Witbier (pronounced Vit beer), brewed with orange peel, the beer has notes of coriander, as well as a familiar citrus character, owing to the hops used to make this beer. At 5.6% ABV (alcohol by volume) and 40 IBU (International Bittering Units), the beer should be on the shelves this week and available on draft and in bottles, until the end of October.

But the brewery didn’t stop there.

Knowing that many people are staying home or avoiding long-distances, due to the Coronavirus-pandemic, Deschutes Brewery is letting some rare - taproom exclusives - eek out to the grocery stores. Starting with a variant of the world-famous The Dissident, the brewery is happy to share “Dissident Boysenberry”.

A beer that is inspired by the Flanders Reds of the old country, this beer is fermented with mixed culture (yeast) while resting in an oaken-bed with boysenberries. The result is a beer that is tart and sweet, creating a unique balance and a punctuation mark to the original The Dissident. At 9.7% ABV and 10 IBU, this beer is available in 500 ml bottles both online and in select locations, starting mid-August.

Following up on The Dissident, Boysenberry, the brewery is pleased to share bottles and draft of their Blue Butterfly.

An experimental beer, blending saison esters, a subtle brett funkiness, and notes of fruity and floral hops; Blue Butterfly is a rare treat.

A Blue Butterfly is representative of transformation and change and symbolizes this distinctive beer's journey that is dry hopped at the end with Celeia and Mosaic hops.

At 5.2% ABV and 22 IBU, Blue Butterfly is a delicate treat, available at Deschutes Taprooms, online, and in select locations in bottles and on draft.
