Old Stove Brewing is open for business/Northwest Beer Guide™

After months of delays Old Stove Brewing Company’s newest location, in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood, has opened for business. Well, mostly open for business. With their other location which supports a Nickerson Street address, under construction, the brewery invites goers to visit “The Old 49er”. Located between streets West Nickerson and West Ewing, on 6th Avenue West at 601 West Ewing Street, it supporting off-street parking and is minutes from Seattle Pacific University, or nearby Fremont neighborhood.

Currently operating under the guise of a soft opening, the brewery taproom accommodates around 49 people, supported by Old Stove Brewing’s beers spread across six-draught handles, along with third party produced cider, wine, hard seltzer, and other drinks. Besides drinks, the brewery encourages guests to complement their drink of choice with pre-packaged food from Old Stove’s restaurant at the Pike Place Market or import something from a nearby restaurant or cafe in the neighborhood. Besides outside food, “The Old 49er” has considered inviting food trucks in the future, once recognition of their new location garners a guaranteed audience.

With an optimistic plan to expand capacity to around 100 guests, current visitors are encouraged to relax in a dimly lit lounge, or an outdoor ‘garden’ featuring 2 covered long tables (made of multiple wooden picnic tables), and nearby recycle oaken barrels which double as a barrier and as countertop space. Indoors, bar top seating, multiple tables will greet guests, capable of holding up to 4, while a faux cast iron fireplace heater provides warmth. Serenaded by classic beer tin posters on four walls, a flatscreen television replaying beer commercials from yesteryear, making for a relaxing experience.

Recognizing there are some who might have a hard time tracking their beer down or drive to their Market Foundation location, the brewery is supporting outside growlers/crowlers, but for now is restricting takeout sales of their packaged beers to their recent “Quiet Eon” release. Eventually, as production increases, the brewery hopes to add a crowler packaging machine at their existing taproom, “The Old 49er”.

In speaking with Old Stove Brewing’s General Manager, Mike Mackley, the hope is to (optimistically) open their intended location, at 601 West Nickerson Street, by next spring. Till then, the brewery intends to grow this newly acquired space, starting with expanding brewery production, before making any public commitments on a timetable when their 601 West Nickerson Street space opens for business.

Finally, for now, the brewery’s newest taproom will remain exclusive to 21 and over while their sister location, in the Market Foundation building next to the Pike Place Market, is open to all ages. Starting hours at “The Old 49er” are Wednesday - Friday from 3pm to 9 pm with Saturday and Sunday open from 12pm to 9pm. About Old Stove Brewing

Many Pike Place Market fans dream of someday owning a shop here, in one of the most iconic farmers markets in the world. For over 110 years, the Market has been home to generations of dreamers, makers and doers who admired this community and became part of it. For Old Stove Brewing Co-founders, Chris Moore and Brian Stan, their Pike Place Market dream became a reality early in 2016.

What began with exciting “what if” conversations and sketches on bar napkins became full-scale plans to present to both the Pike Place Market PDA and Market Historical Commission. After many conversations, Old Stove Brewing was granted approval to become the anchor tenant of the MarketFront in 2017.

The vision for Old Stove Brewing Co. has always been to carry on the Market’s “Meet the Producer” tradition by producing amazing beer onsite to be enjoyed in a comfortable and enticing taproom. Thanks to the vision and work of many, we have been able to create one of the best places to experience craft beer in Pacific Northwest. We invite you to bring your family and friends to see and taste for yourselves!
