Press Release

PORTLAND, Ore. … Von Ebert Brewing, winner of the 2021 Oregon Beer Awards’ Medium Size Brewery of the Year, this week will release two new draft lagers at its two Portland brewpub locations - Festbier and Modern Noble Pils.

Festbier is a 6.0% ABV modern Bavarian-style festival lager that represents the Von Ebert take on the beer served at the famed Oktoberfest celebration held on Munich’s Theresienwiese in late September.

“Oktoberfest beers are unique; style-wise, they have a lot of confusion attached to them, if you think about it,” commented Jason Hansen, lead brewer and blender, Von Ebert Glendoveer. “For starters, they’re brewed for an event that happens in September, rather than October, and a lot of people don’t know that. And additionally, when some think of ‘Oktoberfest beer,’ their minds go to an amber-colored lager instead of the lighter colored lagers traditionally consumed at the event.”

The Von Ebert Festbier is a strong-ish malty blonde-colored lager, similar to a strong helles, that’s single decocted and hopped exclusively with German Tettnang.

“We took great care to preserve the intense malt flavor and aroma that people expect from this style throughout the brewing process,” explained Hansen. “The final product is crisp with flavors of rich malt and honeysuckle.”

The beer is available now at both Von Ebert brewpubs to kick off the weeklong Vontoberfest celebration. Additionally, the two locations will each be running a Spaeztle food special this week that pairs perfectly with the Festbier.

Modern Noble Pils is a 4.9% ABV German-style pilsner hopped with Liberty and Adeena.

“This beer is our latest exploration of the modern pils concept, a project we’ve been focused on over the past few years,” Hansen explained in reference to Modern Noble Pils. “This time, we created a more traditional German-style pilsner, using two American hops that were bred from classic German noble hops. They lean more toward fruit and evergreen aromas than their German ancestors.”

The finished beer is a quenching pleaser, with flavors of lemon-lime and fir tips. Modern Noble Pils will be added to the Von Ebert Glendoveer and Pearl lineups this week.
