Ever heard someone say “wish upon a shooting star” or “...nothing wonderful lasted forever. Joy was as fleeting as a shooting star that crossed the evening sky, ready to blink out at any moment”? More than likely you’ve heard the first and the second, most definitely, is appropriate for what Ecliptic Brewing Company is releasing. That’s right, the brewery that shares black hols of Capella and Vega IPA, is releasing the first in their Special Release series - Hoku-lele Tiki-Inspired Tropical Ale.

Named after the Hawaiian translation for shooting star, the brewers have been enjoying themselves as they try to make a beer inspired by tiki cocktails, sans umbrella toppers. As brewery legend and Ecliptic Brewing Company owner John Harris puts it.

“There’s notes of tropical fruit like pineapple and passionfruit, while Sabro hops impart subtle coconut essence. Cinnamon and almond add unique flavor and complexity. If you can’t travel this summer, we’re basically bringing the beach to you.”

But actual proof of if this beer compliments your next tiki cocktail is in the ingredients.

Starting with tropical hops, Sabro, Azaca, and Mosaic; Hoku-lele already inspire thoughts of the tropics before essences of pineapple, passionfruit, guava, coconut, almonds and macadamia nut, and a dash of cinnamon, join the punch bowl. It all leads up to a beer that is 8% ABV (alcohol by volume) and has a mild IBU (international bittering units) of 16.

Marking the third release to make it into a 16-ounce can, Hoku-lele Tiki-Inspired Tropical Ale will back up the rotating hop series Vega IPA, already on shelves throughout the region. Besides cans, look for Hoku-lele Tiki-Inspired Tropical Ale on draft at select locations for takeout or socially distant consumption on site.

Till then, keep your eyes out, this early July, for this shooting star.
