In support of skatepark icon, The Burnside Skatepark, Double Mountain releases Down At The Bridge NW Pale Ale.

Cheers to 30 years at the  bridge and here’s to 30 more. Down At The Bridge NW Pale Ale is available in OBRC refillable 500ML bottles and on draft at  our Hood River Taproom, SE Portland Taproom in the Woodstock neighborhood, and at fine establishments throughout the  Northwest.

Back in 1990, if you were sitting at a bar in Portland and bumped into Brett Taylor, Mark “Red” Scott, Osage Buffalo, Sage Bolyard, or Chuck Willis, and they mentioned their intent to build a skate park, you’d think nothing of it. But if those same people told you they were building it illegally, under the Burnside Bridge, you’d think they were nuts. But that’s what they did, over 30 years ago, and it remains a legacy to not only the skate community but to the resilience of an idea against all odds.

When one reviews some highlights associated with this beloved ad hoc icon, the list includes countless video game references, movies, a source of recreational accommodation (aka, camping), and the inspiration behind design firms Dreamland and Grindline Skatepark. Through it all, the park has financially subsisted on a diet of hope, resilience, and with the support of local funding. However, with the oncoming earthquake retrofitting of Burnside Bridge, the world famous skatepark is fast becoming endangered.

Recognizing the need to support the uniqueness that is Portland’s landmarks, Double Mountain Brewery and Cidery is stepping up by collaborating with The Burnside Skatepark, to raise supports this icon. Sharing his thoughts, Marketing Director Hames Ellerbe had this to say.

“Burnside is the most influential park around and the impact on myself is profound. From skating to friends, Burnside has  shaped a large part of my life. I couldn’t more be excited to work with Sage and Tyler (one of our brewers) to create this  mighty tasty brew in celebration of 30 years at the bridge. Burnside needs to and will continue to stand the test of time,  cheers. ”

Named Down At The Bridge, Double Mountain has conceived of, brewed, and is releasing a Northwest Pale Ale, in honor of The Burnside Skatepark. With your purchase of Down At The Bridge, Double Mountain will donate a portion of the proceeds to Burnside Skatepark’s (501)(c)3 in support.

Here is more from the brewers on their latest release, Down At The Bridge, a 5.2% ABV, 30 IBU NW Pale Ale.

Unsanctioned. Self-funded. Infamous. The Burnside Skatepark has been creating legends for thirty years. In honor of their  “pearl” anniversary, we created this immensely crushable juice bomb of a Northwest Pale Ale. Cheers to thirty more.

Update: In an earlier version of this article, we incorrectly merged Dreamland and Grindline Skateparks together. They are in fact two seperate companies and we offer our apologies to both for the merger.
