As a sponsor of the NBA via the Portland Trail Blazers Radio Network, Deschutes Brewery has taken their support of Oregon’s oldest professional sports team with the latest announcement. In cooperation with the Trail Blazers, Deschutes Brewery is pleased to announce the release of Rip City Lager. An ode to fans and co-branded with the Blazers, this announcement tells a story.

“We’re ecstatic that the Blazers get to restart the 2019-20 season,” said Neal Stewart, VP of Sales and Marketing for Deschutes. “As lifelong Blazers fans, all of us at Deschutes are so proud of this partnership and the opportunity to share the official Rip City Lager with fellow fans to celebrate our beloved Pacific Northwest team.”

First uttered during the team’s first season, “Rip City” has become an affectionate name for Portland’s oldest professional sports team. Recognizing this, coupled with Oregon’s rich history of producing award-winning craft beers, Rip City Lager is a bright, citrusy lager that leaves the palate refreshed. Remarking on the inspiration of Rip City Lager, Neal Stewart shares this.

“Sports fans have a more sophisticated beer culture these days... Fans want a great tasting, high quality craft beer that they can enjoy throughout the game.”

Both inside and outside the can, Rip City Lager has you the fan in mind.

Starting with Rip City colors and design, the can is an homage to Dr. Jack Ramsay, who led the Blazers to the NBA Championship in 1977. Recognizing the importance of supporting the team both  “home” and “away”, look for specially-designed cans matching the team's status at home or on the road.

“Deschutes has been an Oregon staple for over 30 years, and we’re honored to be a part of their journey,” said Chris McGowan, President and CEO of the Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter. “From the name to the can design to the packaging, the Rip City Lager doesn’t miss a detail and is a perfect partnership for our of-age fans.”

Brewed with Lemondrop, Crystal, and Hallertau Mittelfruh hops; the beer benefits from these hops resulting in lager at 4.8% abv (alcohol by volume) and 20 ibu (international bittering units).

Look for Rip City Lager to be available this September, in 12-ounce six-packs, 12-packs, 24-packs, and 19.2-ounce “tallboys” at select locations throughout Oregon and Washington.
