Portland brewery Baerlic releases Keep Oregon Green™ IPA, to benefit Keep Oregon Green™.

Ask anyone along the West Coast of the United States, from California to Washington, and they will recall the horrible smoke that darkened the neighborhoods. Coupled with restrictions on dine-in capacity, and many businesses saw their profits shrink further as fewer people opted for dining out. Through it all the region has suffered not only through the Coronavirus but also the seasonal air congestion that comes from each Summer’s spate of forest fires. Recognizing the struggles of the Pacific Northwest, Baerlic Brewing Company is doing something about it and they aren’t alone.

In cooperation with Keep Oregon Green™, Baerlic Brewing has started a campaign designed to donate 100% of sales from their beer, Keep Oregon Green™ IPA, to benefit wildfire relief and prevention.

Modeled after Sierra Nevada Brewing Company’s Resilience IPA program, Baerlic Brewing Company is encouraging other Oregon breweries to take part and donate their sales to work towards the same goal. Recognizing there will be some that are skeptical of Baerlic’s ambitions, Ben Parsons, co-owner of Baerlic Beer, had this to share.

80% of the proceeds of this beer will go to Oregon's 2020 Community Rebuilding Fund working on the ground in Oregon helping those most in need right now. The remaining 20% of proceeds will go directly to Keep Oregon Green™ to help them carry on in the mission of preventing human caused wildfires in Oregon through education and engagement.

Witnessing the complete destruction of entire towns by the Riverside Fire not 30 miles from my own home was so beyond belief…and to think that it was human caused made it all that much more terrible. That's when I reached out to Kristin at Keep Oregon Green™ and we came up with Keep Oregon Green IPA—a 100% Oregon grown beer where ALL proceeds will go toward not only helping those most in need right now, but also to help prevent this from happening in the future.

Furthering the discussion along, Kristin Babbs, from Keep Oregon Green™ has this to share about the fragility of Oregon’s forests and the root causes of wildfires.

Over 70% of Oregon’s wildfires are started by people. The power and responsibility of wildfire is squarely in our hands. Whether at home, on the job, or out having fun, predict the outcome of any outdoor activity that could possibly spark a wildfire. Predictable is preventable. As our population continues to grow, urban boundaries expand, and wildfires increase in frequency, intensity and cost, Keep Oregon Green’s message is more important than ever.

Which is where you the imbiber or brewer come in, because Baerlic and by benefit Keep Oregon Green™ need your help.
