Portland's Great Notion opens their next taproom, in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood, Summer 2020.

Considered to some as the step-father to the Pacific Northwest's love-affair with Hazy/New England-style India Pale Ales; Great Notion Brewing & Barrel House remains a destination brewery for out-of-towners and local's alike. Emblazoned with iconic artwork, the brewery's range from the familiar Hazy IPA, to the fruit-infused, lactose curiosities, to the dark and boozy Imperial Stouts. When the brewery isn't sliding a pint or stemmed glass into your hand, they are sliding a plate of deep-fried chicken sandwich or cheeseburger into the same mitt.

Taking things on the road, the brewery has shipped their beer throughout Oregon and only recently, Washington. Mostly available at bottleshops and select public houses, Great Notion remains a brand that people still enjoy.

Either because of road fatigue or simply because the city of Seattle can't get enough of GN beers, the brewery has announced their latest expansion - to Seattle's Ballard neighborhood. With a planned opening, before Summer 2020, the brewery has signed a lease at 5101 14th Avenue NW in the Tommer building.

For Great Notion co-owner Paul Reiter he's excited about getting GN beers in the hands of Seattleites.

“We can’t wait to join the Seattle market and all the amazing breweries already innovating like crazy! We frequently meet Seattle customers that drive 3+ hours every weekend to our can releases, so hopefully that is a good sign that more Northwesterners are curious about trying our hazy IPAs or beer that tastes like Baklava, peanut butter cups, or Tirimisu for example.”

For those curious, yes, the brewery will be offering "Can Release Drops" in Seattle. Much like their NW 28th Avenue location, Seattle's location will feature limited-runs of beers, available with qualifying purchase. In addition to "Can Release Drops", the new location will feature 20 taps of GN beers, inside a 2200+ square foot location along with an NW-focused food menu (with style in development), and 16oz beer-to-go, with varieties rotating weekly. In addition to food and drink, the brewery new location will have plenty of room indoors or out. Tentative hours are 11 am to 10 pm Sunday - Thursday, with Friday and Saturday hours being 11 am - 11 pm.
