Nearly halfway through the July and Bellingham’s Aslan Brewing Company is showing no signs of letting up.

Having recently qualified for Phase 2 dining, the brewery taprooms are ready to host and serve each and everyone of you. While the prospect of sitting down with a pint and/or a plate of food sounds appetizing, many of you probably aren’t ready to brave the indoors or outdoors, wearing masks and keeping social distancing. Instead, if the polls are to believe you count yourself among those staying home or spending time in a friend’s backyard, socially distant from one another. Whichever category you full under, the brewery is happy to announce the following new or returning beers for July and into the year.

American Lager

Brewed as an homage to both the classic, 1930s-style lagers of 20th century America, American Lager is a beer that seeks to capture the spirit of beers like Schlitz lager, while nodding to the quintessential lager in Pilsner Urquell.

Starting with cereal mashed corn grits, a double decoction of American two-row barley, and hopped with noble hops, American Lager is a 30 IBU, light sipper for these relaxing Summer nights. Plus, 100% of the profits from this beer are being donated to the Black Lives Matter chapter in Seattle-King County.

Hefe

Following up American Lager, the brewery is pleased to release a German-inspired wheat beer that, some say, is the perfect Summer beer.

Brewed with German yeast and double decoction, Hefe has notes of vanilla and fresh wheat bread, while leaving a crisp finish in your mouth. Also, this beer is available this Friday, at Aslan taprooms.

Frances Mezcal

Available later this month, Aslan’s “flagship” Saison is aged brettanomyces in, previous-use, Mezcal tequila barrels. Details are limited and so is the beer, so stay tuned in the coming weeks by following the brewery’s social media profiles for more information.

Captain Ron

Back for an encore, Captain Ron has made the rounds throughout the years. Featuring an iconic Aslan lion on the label, with an affixed eyepatch, Captain Ron is mostly hopped with Callista, a new hop from Germany. Through the use of Callista, the brewery is able to add a greater amount of Mandarina Bavaria hops, leading to smooth flavors.

With notes of hard fruit candy, a low bitterness and a smooth mouthfeel, Captain Ron is back. Oh, and the brewery is inviting you to keep your eyes out for a limited-edition Raspberry-edition of Captain Ron, scheduled for release in August, at their taprooms. In the meantime, lookout for packaged and draft versions of this Hazy IPA at the end of this month.

Helles

Finally, in early to mid-August, Aslan Brewing releases a staff-favorite in Helles.

Brewed with quality, Organic German Pils and Mittelfruh hops, the beer’s mash is double decocted before taking a bath with German Pils and Mittelfruh hops. Reading like a book, Helles is subtle but sparkling, with a nod to the 100% natural carbonation recovered during fermentation.

Starting with American Lager, followed by Hefe, Frances Mezcal, Captain Ron, and Helles; keep your eyes out for new and familiar faces from Bellingham’s Aslan Brewing Company

About Aslan Brewing Company

IT ALL STARTED IN THE SUMMER OF 2012, as a conversation over a pint of beer at a local Bellingham pub. We shared our dreams and soon realized that the elements of our future were sitting amongst us: a businessman, a craft beer believer and, most importantly, a brewer. Together, Frank Trosset, Pat Haynes, and Jack Lamb would go on to build and operate a pilot brewery in Downtown Bellingham, where, for the next twelve months of our lives, we would research and develop the knowledge and skills needed to start our own commercial microbrewery and restaurant.

We called it ASLAN BREWING COMPANY, and quickly realized its identity through our personal commonalities. With a commitment to organic ingredients, locally sourced goods, and low-impact practices, we aimed to offer the community something new and refreshing, the sustainable way. As for “ASLAN”: a lion is the King of the Jungle, a regal figure rooted in nature, and aslan is the Turkish word for lion. This aligned our desire to operate a world-class brewery all while preserving the raw and exotic elements of the world. Through hard work and perseverance, we brewed over 130 original pilot batches, connected with local brewers and beer lovers alike, and designed a business plan catered to craft quality and creativity.

In the final days of Summer 2013, we were given the keys to what would become Aslan’s Brewpub. Plans and permits in hand, we began our nine-month journey into construction that was done primarily by us, Boe and Don Trosset. After months of unconditional commitment, Boe Trosset was added as an invaluable member of the ownership team. Fast forward to today and we are four great friends who have together manifested our dream of owning and operating an organic brewery. We are proud and fortunate to be working with many of our close friends and to be part of the amazing community that is Bellingham.
