Bellingham's Aslan Brewing releases Das Boot Festbier and Neon Theater Hazy Pale Ale

Hallway through September and 2020 continues to outdo itself. As the men and women of Aslan Brewing cope with the coronavirus, they now can add smoke-filled skies to their 2020 bingo card. But that’s not stopping them for rolling fresh beer for those in need of a distracting beverage.

Announced via their newsletter, Aslan Brewing is happy to share with your their Das Boot and Neon Theater.

Inspired by Oktoberfest beer halls, Das Boot is German-style Festbier.

Festbier is a modern Oktoberfest style, making its way onto the scene in the 70's as a lighter option for the traditional German Oktoberfest. Das Boot is our interpretation of the style, and we always welcome its return as it represents the transition from summer to fall. With a little bit bigger body and a touch more alcohol than our Helles, this beer feels more like autumn and prepares you for cooler evenings.

Brewed with traditional German malts, including Pilsner and Vienna, Das Boot is chaperoned by German-inspired hops Perle and Hersbrucker. The result is a beer that has a medium body, inspiring thoughts of rising bread, while remaining refreshing. At 5.6% ABV (alcohol by volume) and 27.7 IBU (international bittering units), Das Boot might be a welcome distraction.

Following on the theme of entertainment, the brewery has released Neon Theater Hazy Pale Ale.

Neon Theater was brewed for the final push of summer. We wanted to brew a beer for all of the socially distanced BBQs of Labor Day Weekend. A showcase for Azacca and Callista hops, this beer has flavors of apricot, white peach, and cedar with a pleasant bitterness. The buckwheat provides a nuttiness to go along with a balancing softness to the palate. This beer feels like a fitting farewell to what has surely been the strangest summer we've ever experienced.

Made with new wave hops, Azacca and Callista; Neon Theater crowd surfs on a bed of Fraser Pale (SVM), Buckwheat (SVM), and Munich (SVM) malts. The result is a beer that has notes of stone fruit (like apricots), a medium body, a silky smoothness. At 5% ABV and 40 IBU, look for this beer to be already on the shelves.

Look for both Das Boot and Neon Theater to be available at Aslan’s taprooms in Bellingham and Seattle, Washington, and wherever you find Aslan Brewing beers.

About Aslan Brewing Company

IT ALL STARTED IN THE SUMMER OF 2012, as a conversation over a pint of beer at a local Bellingham pub. We shared our dreams and soon realized that the elements of our future were sitting amongst us: a businessman, a craft beer believer and, most importantly, a brewer. Together, Frank Trosset, Pat Haynes, and Jack Lamb would go on to build and operate a pilot brewery in Downtown Bellingham, where, for the next twelve months of our lives, we would research and develop the knowledge and skills needed to start our own commercial microbrewery and restaurant.

We called it ASLAN BREWING COMPANY, and quickly realized its identity through our personal commonalities. With a commitment to organic ingredients, locally sourced goods, and low-impact practices, we aimed to offer the community something new and refreshing, the sustainable way. As for “ASLAN”: a lion is the King of the Jungle, a regal figure rooted in nature, and aslan is the Turkish word for lion. This aligned our desire to operate a world-class brewery all while preserving the raw and exotic elements of the world. Through hard work and perseverance, we brewed over 130 original pilot batches, connected with local brewers and beer lovers alike, and designed a business plan catered to craft quality and creativity.

In the final days of Summer 2013, we were given the keys to what would become Aslan’s Brewpub. Plans and permits in hand, we began our nine-month journey into construction that was done primarily by us, Boe and Don Trosset. After months of unconditional commitment, Boe Trosset was added as an invaluable member of the ownership team. Fast forward to today and we are four great friends who have together manifested our dream of owning and operating an organic brewery. We are proud and fortunate to be working with many of our close friends and to be part of the amazing community that is Bellingham.
