Brookings, Oregon - February 15, 2023 - An adventure is brewing on the Southern Oregon Coast where you’ll find a Top 100 Best “Fan-Favorite” Destination in Oregon for 2023 - Chetco Brewing Company! From humble beginnings (with an 8 gallon pot in the owners garage and a borrowed pop-up at local events and farmers markets) on the Chetco River, Chetco Brewing Company has grown into an award winning, must-stop brewery in the heart of Brookings, Oregon.

Oregon Business, an award winning magazine founded in 1981, scoured over 80,000 online reviews and tallied the scores to create their 5th Annual 100 Best “Fan-Favorite” Destinations in Oregon list and Chetco Brewing Company made the list again! This small town brewery was one of two Oregon breweries to make the list in 2020… then COVID brought travel to halt until last year. Oregon Business has brought back their Top 100 Fan Favorites for 2023 and it includes winners from all over the state and all types of businesses from parks to resorts to museums to restaurants. Chetco Brewing has put Brookings on the map by being the only brewery to make the list this year.

Oregon Business determines their Top 100 Destinations list by analyzing online reviews and ranking them based on the number of 4 and 5-star reviews compared to the overall number of Reviews.

The Top 100 List is just the beginning for Chetco Brewing Company in 2023. Earlier this month, they celebrated five years at the current location, 830 Railroad Street in Brookings. In April, Chetco Brewing Company will celebrate 10 years of hand-crafting beer in the Banana Belt with a 10 year anniversary party. 

Chetco Brewing Company began brewing in Brookings in 2013 in a brewing set up in the owners’ garage on the Chetco River and now operates out of a 10,000 square foot brew space and Tap Room, with at least 20 craft beers on tap, food trucks, live music,free games, an event space, and a variety of special events, including a 10 year celebration in April. Payette Brewing Company responds after being recognized during SIP Magazine's "Best of the Northwest Beer Awards".

Sip Magazine announced the 11th annual Best of the Northwest Beer Awards in October and Payette Brewing Company, in Boise, Idaho, is proud to have won many. The awards include:

  • North Fork Lager: Awarded Double Gold in the Lager category. 

  • Urban Surfer Citrus Wheat: Tied for Gold in the Session Ale category.

  • Recoil India-Pale Ale: Awarded Silver in the American-Style India Pale Ale category. 

  • Sofa King Sunny: Won Judges’ Pick in the Hazy or Juicy Pale Ale category.

Chetco Brewing Company celebrates 10 years, this starting this Tuesday, April 18th.

It’s been 9 years since that first Zwicklemania in our driveway.” laughs Master Brewer Michael “Fred” Frederick. “We had to disguise it as a ‘Yard Sale’.”  Chetco’s growth has been painstaking- no big investors, no legacy brewer, just a dedicated, hardworking married couple risking it all to run their own business. “When we’d get a little money in the bank, we’d roll it right back into the brewery. We opened a tiny Tap Room on the 101 in downtown Brookings in 2015, then graduated to a 7 bbl brew system in 2016…”

Breweries Block 15, Buoy Beer, and Sunriver, collaborate to support the Ocean Blue Project with the release of Where Rivers Meet Pale Ale.

Where Rivers Meet Pale Ale was crafted and brewed by all three breweries on May 26th in Sunriver, OR. Head Brewer Patrick Raasch describes the beer as “a light-colored, clear, West Coast-style Pale Ale with a bright citrus and tropical hop character”. The beer will be available on draft and in cans throughout Oregon and at the three brewery locations after the launch party in Newport.

While developing the beer concept and recipe, the breweries recognized the impact of sourcing ingredients from sustainable suppliers. “We brewed with a selection of Salmon-Safe hops from some of Oregon’s finest hop growers – Crystal from Goschie Farms, Strata from Coleman AG, and Estate Grown Comet and Chinook from Crosby Hop Farm.” Brett Thomas, Sunriver Brewing Director of Brewing Ops, explains.
