The Victoria Beer Society invites you to join them for lagers and fresh hops, October 8th and 9th.
Nearly two years into the pandemic and many loyal imbibers have stuck with getting takeaway growlers and bottles, or masking up and retiring with a pint at their local. Obviously, it’s not lost that the global pandemic remains, but this hasn’t stopped the Victoria Beer Society from trying to inspire some normalcy with two events.
With one focusing on Autumn and another which requires patience and time, the VBS is pleased to announce two events, October 8th and 9th, at the 600 Block of David Street.
Lager Than Life, a celebration of lagers.
From the mouths of the organizers, here’s the backstory and the breakdown.
The Victoria Beer Society is proud to announce its first event since the onset of the pandemic: Lager Than Life on Friday, October 8th 2021 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. Originally scheduled to take place as part of Victoria Beer Week last year, it was the first event cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Little did we know it would be postponed for more than 18 months!
Lagers have long been the outcast of the craft beer family, often overshadowed by trendier beers like their boastful IPA cousins. We think lagers have earned their place at the craft beer family table. The event will feature close to 20 lager-style beers from BC craft breweries.
To perfectly pair with these crisp brews, the Rock Bay Market’s Bird & Basket will be providing some delicious food options, featuring our special guest, Dumpling Drop.
With the event starting this Friday, October 8th, from 5:30pm - 8:30pm, the organizers invite you to purchase a ticket online, via victoriabeersociety.com, for $35+GST.
If this isn’t enough to get your interest, then consider the following breweries and their lagers, including.

Canoe Brewpub, Helles Lager Marzen

Fresh to Death: Victoria’s Harvest Celebration of Fresh Hop Beers
Following Lager Than Life, the organizers return on Saturday, October 9th, from 2 pm to 5 pm, with Fresh to Death: Victoria’s Harvest Celebration of Fresh Hop Beers. At the 600 Block of David Street, look for some 20 beers showcasing the harvest.
Again, here are the organizers.
They travel to hop farms all around the province to collect fresh hops that are still wet and juicy from the harvest. Then they race back to their breweries to brew a batch of beer with those hops. These special fresh hop (or wet hop) beers come out a few weeks later and are available for a short time at the beginning of autumn.
The Victoria Beer Society is proud to announce the return of Fresh to Death: Victoria’s Harvest Celebration of Fresh Hop Beers on Saturday, October 9th 2021 from 2 to 5pm.
The event will feature close to 20 beers from BC craft breweries, including fresh hop beers, as well as seasonal beers and Oktoberfest-style lagers, all celebrating the harvest season.
For craft beer connoisseurs, we have created a VIP ticket that includes an exclusive guided tasting of a selection of four fresh hop beers led by Rob Mangelsdorf, Certified Cicerone, and early access to the event. Rob will pick four beers that showcase different flavour profiles, and discuss what makes them special and unique. This VIP event begins at 1pm ahead of the start of the regular event at 2pm.
General Admission tickets are $35+GST or one jump ahead via a VIP Tasting & Early Admission at 1pm for $55+GST. Tickets can be purchased at victoriabeersociety.com.
If you’ve made it this far, we probably don’t need to share what you’ll be missing from this Saturday’s event. But if you need a small bite, then how does 33 Acres, Dageraad Brewing, and Whistle Buoy Brewing strike you?
