As the “world’s first organic brewery” Pinkus’ name is etched in history. Found in Münster, Germany, the brewery, now over 200 years old, has survived countless wars and even outlived over 150 breweries that have risen and fallen in the area. Today the brewery is happy to announce the release of 330mL (or 11.2 ounce) four-packs of their Münster Alt and Pinkus Ur-Pils.

After 35 years of selling 500ml (aka, half-liters) in the United States, the family-owned brewery is ready to make a change. Breaking it down here is what the brewery has to say about their two fresh additions.

  • Pinkus Münster Alt: Pale, golden, hazy; excellent, herbaceous aroma; lightly sour fruit-acid palate; long dry finish with a note of inviting sharpness. The only example left of Münster altbier, paler than Dusseldorf 's brown altbiers. USDA Certified Organic. 5.1% ABV.

  • Pinkus Ur-Pils: "Ur" means "original" or "old-school" - clean, brilliant gold all-malt lager with dry finish. In Germany, pils are a national heritage. USDA Certified Organic. 5.2% ABV.

About Pinkus Brewery

The Pinkus-Muller brewery traces its origins to the family's arrival in the Northern Germany town of Munster in 1816. At that time, Johannes Muller and his wife Friederika Cramer started a brewery and a bakery. Since their arrival there have been 150 breweries in Munster. Only Pinkus remains.

Today, the fifth and sixth generation of the family operate the famous Pinkus-Muller Pub/Brewery. So dedicated to quality is Pinkus, that they are the world's first brewery to brew with only organically grown barley malt and whole hop blossoms.

Pinkus Brewery is certified organic by USDA-accredited ABCERT GmbH - a copy of the certification letter can be viewed here (192 KB .pdf); referenced EU organic link is here.
