14 Seattle's unique public houses, collaborate with Georgetown Brewing Company to release a beer supporting charities and the craft industry.

The members of the SBBC are excited to move forward, starting with the Georgetown collaboration and expanding their presence within the community. The guiding principle is to have a group of influential “beer bar folks” that will help navigate each other through some of the challenges facing small businesses. In the end, the organization is about celebrating craft beer and the community surrounding it, especially the amazing beer bars, neighborhood pubs and breweries that comprise and nurture it.

Composed of the areas most recognized and respected public houses, restaurants, and special bottle shops; the Seattle Beer Bar Coalition started by seeing a problem before seeking the help of two organizations - Georgetown Brewing Company and the YWCA Seattle King Snohomish - with the goal of finding a solution.

For the publicans of Brouwer’s Cafe, Latona Pub, Bottleworks, Fiddler’s Inn, The Yard Cafe, Watershed Pub & Kitchen, Trailbend Taproom, Olaf’s, The Pine Box, Toronado Seattle, The Shambles, Beveridge Place Pub, Hopvine Pub, and The Dray; the answer was simple - cooperation. In connection with Georgetown Brewing Company and the YWCA Seattle King Snohomish along with the publicans mentioned seek to enlighten people the struggles of the beer industry and supporting a worthy charity in the Y.W.C.A. through the power of the publican's bar.

Collaborations are commonplace in the beer industry. The idea behind a collaboration beer is to meet, communicate on the elements of a recipe, be part of the brewing process, and help promote the strong sense of community that is unique to craft beer. Often these beers have a charitable nature to them, and in this case sales from Boop & Beep IPA will benefit the YWCA—a charity dear to Georgetown brewer Chris Bower and his family, as is reflected in the beer’s name, which is also of personal significance. The YWCA “is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.”

Brewed in homage to Seattle’s craft beer roots, Boop & Beep IPA is made with Columbus bittering hops in the boil, with later additions Strata, Citra, and Mosaic bring this India Pale Ale into the 21st century. Look for the first collaboration from the SBBC, January 29th, at Georgetown Brewing Company’s taproom and participating locations.

UPDATE: In speaking with the local chapter we wanted to further clarify that fund raised will be going towards the YWCA of Seattle King Snohomish. In addition, we have removed the words Young Women Christian Association, as the name is no longer valid with the YWCA Seattle King Snohomish.
