Rye Beer Fest announces new location, new charity, and date - June 17th. Tickets on sale.

PORTLAND, Ore. – April 27th, 2017 - The 6th Annual Rye Beer Fest, part of Portland Beer Week returns with new location, date, and charity to benefit, New Avenues For Youth. This year’s fest will take place on Saturday, June 17th at Happy Valley Station Food Cart Pod (13551 SE 145th Ave, Happy Valley, OR 97015). Event hours are 11 am to 9 pm featuring over 20 rye beers and 18+ food carts.

The goal of the Rye Beer Fest is to bring attention to the use of rye in beers while creating awareness for a good cause. Rye beers can be earthy, tart, or spicy. This fest will feature a curated tap list consisting of a variety of beers styles utilizing this impactful grain. Expect rye beers ranging from Saisons, IPAs to the traditional German style of Roggenbier. The event location is family friendly this year, which opens it up to many more opportunities to explore Portland Beer Week as a family.

The location of the event is Happy Valley Station Food Cart Pod, which is ideal for the ever-changing Portland weather. With 3800 square feet of indoor temperature controlled seating and covered food carts, this fest will be a blast rain or shine. With 18 food carts to choose from everyone’s taste buds will be covered. Whether you want a Sushi B-Ritto from Wasabi Sushi PDX, The Baconator pizza from Crust Wood Fired Pizza or the something lighter like the Vegan wrap from Urban Avocado, Happy Valley Station will provide the options.

There is no cost to enter the festival, but a $10 package is required to drink beer. This includes an official tasting glass and four drink tickets. Additional tickets can be purchased for $1 a piece. A majority of the beers will cost one ticket for a four-ounce pour or four tickets for a full glass. A few of the beers may require multiple tickets. Purchase your tickets in advance and save money by gaining additional drink tickets. Starting at 6 pm all of the remaining rye beer will be available for $6 a growler fill (up to 64 oz) that you provide. Get a glass growler (up to 64 oz) filled with the rye beer of your choice for only $8. Growler fills special pricing is available to festival attendees with wristbands the day of and is open to the general public on Sunday.

Proceeds from Rye Beer Fest will go towards New Avenues For Youth, a local non-profit that supports homeless and at youth-risk in Portland. Representatives from the New Avenues will be on site to answer questions and run a raffle with prizes ranging from event tickets to various brewery apparel. We also want to thank all of our sponsors including General Distributors, Inc, Happy Valley Station Food Carts and all of the participating breweries.

For the kids, there will be some activities in the designated Crater Lake Root Beer Kids Zone including; toys, art, games and free Crater Lake Root beer with parent’s showing proof of buying admission into the event.

General Distributors, Inc:
General Distributors, Inc. was founded by Charles A. Fick, Sr. and his brother George Fick, Sr. in 1921. During Prohibition, together they ran "Fick Cigar Co." and distributed candy, cigarettes, and cigars. After Prohibition repeal, they began selling the Olympia beer brand. The warehouse was located in downtown Portland and had three delivery trucks, three drivers. The current warehouse is located in Oregon City, OR and employs over 120 people and distributes a wide variety of brands.
