Brewery News: OR: Astoria: Buoy Brewing reacts after winning Silver for their Dunkel, at this year’s GABF

Press Release

Denver CO, October 2014 - Earlier this month at the Great American Beer Festival, Buoy Beer Company won the silver medal in the European-Style Dunkel category, adding to an already exciting first year for Astoria Oregon's newest brewery.

"Dunkel was one of the lagers Luke Colvin, Buoy Beer's CEO, served at the original investor meetings," said Dan Hamilton, Co-Founder at Buoy Beer Company. The Dunkel was instrumental on selling their start-up idea to the investor pool and now wins Buoy Beer Company its first GABF medal.

The Dunkel originated as a home-brew recipe, first made in 1989 by Dan Hamilton. The recipe was translated to commercial scale by Head Brewer Kevin Shaw. "In up-scaling to the production system, we went with a darker Munich malt to yield the desired rich mahogany color and to deliver those nutty, bready flavor notes you want in a good Dunkel."
