Celebrating the life of cognoscente paddler, Peter Marcus, Boundary Bay Brewing releases Wave Breaker Pale. A portion of sales will benefit Bellingham Youth Paddlesports.

A year after his passing, friends, family and Boundary Bay Brewery have come together to honor the legacy of Peter Marcus, by releasing Wave Breaker Pale Ale. 

A leader in the greater Bellingham paddling and outdoor community, Peter Marcus was instrumental in creating a vibrant and caring outdoor community in Bellingham. 

Brandon Nelson, local paddler and long time friend, says Peter was the leader the paddling community didn’t know they needed. “He filled his tank so full that it was spilling over and then he said, ‘Okay, I’m full now, how can I give to the community? What can I give to the community? What can I give to my friends that makes this area even more special?’ And then he did it.” 

Peter Marcus is credited with starting the Paddle4Food Relay, the Bellingham Rough Water Race (now the Peter Marcus Rough Water Race), the Paddler’s Film Festival, chairing the sea kayak leg of the Ski to Sea, coaching youth sports, and volunteering his time to Bellingham Youth Paddlesports. 

A portion of the proceeds from Wave Breaker Pale Ale will be donated to the local nonprofit Bellingham Youth Paddlesports, which encourages and empowers the next generation of paddlers. 

Jeff Cummings approached Boundary Bay about commemorating Peter with a beer. He says the name Wave Breaker speaks to Peter’s legacy, “I look at the wave as a challenge, and in life, when he [Peter] saw a challenge, he just pushed forward. So to have a beer that is breaking waves is poignant for him.”

Having known Peter and the impact he made to the community, Janet Lightner, Boundary Bay Brewery’s General Manager shared, “The Boundary team is honored to play a role in keeping Peter’s memory and philanthropic spirit alive. Wave Breaker is a tribute to the man who shined both on and off the water.”

Wave Breaker Pale Ale is available at Boundary Bay Brewery, both on tap and in kegs, for a limited time.
