Single Hill selects River Barrel Distributing as part of expansion into Western Washington.

Press Release

Yakima Valley, Washington has long been one of the most prevalent hop-growing regions in the world. In fact, 75% of the United States’ total hop acreage is located here, producing hop favorites like Cascade, Mosaic, Amarillo, Citra, Centennial, and others. With so many hops at their fingertips, it’s no coincidence that business partners Zach Turner and Ty Paxton chose Yakima as the perfect place to start a brewery.

Turner started his beer career as a home brewer before taking a position with Odell Brewing in Fort Collins, Colorado. After that, he returned to the Pacific Northwest and joined Washington’s Hop Union, which later became part of Yakima Chief Hops.

A year later, Turner met Paxton at a party hosted by a mutual friend. Paxton, a Washington State Marketing & Fine Arts graduate, had a career in sales and marketing, but had always dreamt of opening a brewery. Together in 2018, the two of them opened Single Hill Brewing in downtown Yakima with the goal of growing and supporting the local community.

“Single Hill Brewing brings together the hop and beer industries, alongside our local Yakima community, to create good times and great beer,” says Paxton.

Single Hill Brewing has created more than 70 unique beers so far this year and now, their beer varieties will be available to those in Washington’s King, Pierce, Thurston, Lewis, Snohomish, Kitsap, and Chelan Counties via River Barrel Distributing.

“This partnership with River Barrel Distributing is exciting,” says Turner. “Not just because the beer that we’re incredibly proud of will find a wider audience, but because this is the start of a long-term relationship that we expect to be marked with stability, mutual support, and growth.”

River Barrel will carry Single Hill favorites like Adams Pils, Sightglass Hazy IPA, and Lateral A IPA, alongside a variety of one-offs, annual brews, and seasonal brews.

"It is such a unique opportunity to work with a brand embedded in Washington's hop-growing region of Yakima,” says Joe Cohen, Sales Manager at River Barrel Distributing. “We can't wait to get Single Hill products out to a wider audience of Western WA beer lovers. In addition to an ever-rotating lineup of hoppy beers, we look forward to showcasing their lagers & core lineup of tasty brews.”
