The first in 2021, Ecliptic Brewing Company and Wayfinder Beer release Ecliptic + Wayfinder Cold IPA

The first in 2021, Ecliptic Brewing Company and Wayfinder Beer release Ecliptic + Wayfinder Cold IPA

In life, like the Spring Equinox, there are traditions that remain unchanged year-over-year.

For John Harris, owner of Ecliptic Brewing Company, the one tradition recently celebrated is the collaboration series of beers with regional and domestic brewers who have inspired John or themselves been inspired by John.

In previous instances collaborations have occurred from industry titans like Brooklyn Brewery’s Garrett Oliver and Russian River Brewing’s Vinnie Cilurzo, or breakout brewers like Ruse Brewing’s Shaun Kalis and Cloudburst Brewing’s Steve Luke. Through this collaboration each brewery not only exchanges ideas and experience, but they develop something unique to both breweries. The result is a beer that is inspired and inspiring, while remaining like the experience unique. Now in 2021, Ecliptic Brewing Company pairs up with local brewer and inspired brewer Kevin Davey of Wayfinder Beer, to release the next (and first in 2021) Cosmic Collaboration series beer.

Releasing the week of February 17th, the duo sought to create an India Pale Ale reflective of Harris’ love of ales and Davey’s steadfast support of European-inspired lagers. Collectively inspired, the brewers sought to create a Cold IPA. With their thoughts on this emerging style is Kevin and John.

“Cold IPA” is a newer term, and the style aims to feature a crisper IPA. John Harris, Ecliptic’s Owner and Brewmaster teamed up with Wayfinder’s Brewmaster, Kevin Davey, to create Ecliptic’s take on the style. The beer is brewed with Pilsner malt and lager yeast and features Pacific Sunrise and Talus hops. Says Davey, “Cold IPA is our attempt at making a ‘Wester than West Coast’ IPA’, but it’s not a lager… it’s more of a crossover style”. Adjuncts help lighten the body and increase drinkability. In Davey’s words, the result is a “very clean, dry and extremely hop forward” beer.

“I’m excited to work with Kevin and the Wayfinder team,” says Harris. “They really embraced this style and have made a few Cold IPAs already, so we’re stoked to team up and see what we can brew at Ecliptic. It’s fun to try something different.”

At ABV: 8% Ecliptic + Wayfinder Cold IPA has a target release date of February 17th. But the brewery has formal plans for a release party, hosted virtually (via Zoom video conferencing) on February 25th. Starting at 5:30 pm with a tentative runtime of 30 minutes, join Ecliptic’s John Harris and Wayfinder’s Kevin Davey and co-owner Charlie Devereux.
