With the central goal of showing the awe-inspiring nature of pairing food with beer, the brewers and chefs invite you to travel to Washington, D.C., as you stroll throughout The Anthem, near the waterfront in the District Wharf. For those from the Pacific Northwest, the Brewers Association is happy to confirm three breweries from Oregon, one from Idaho, and three from Washington will be in attendance for this unique event. Just in case you are curious, here are the breweries along with the beers they are bringing and the Brewers Association style category it is associated with.

Barbarian Brewing

About Barbarian Brewing

Barbarian Brewing opened in Garden City, Idaho in October 2015 and opened a second Downtown Boise Taproom in August 2017. We are a small, but mighty Barbarian crew of 10 people and are independently, locally owned. We brew on a 5 bbl nano system with a barrel room that houses more than 90 oak barrels aging limited batch sours, brettanomyces forward funky beers, Bourbon barrel stouts and barley wines. Barbarian also focuses on classic styles, kettle sours, hazy IPAs, West Coast IPAs, Belgian ales, dark and malty styles, and experimental styles such as Ice Cream Ales, cocktail inspired beers and a Candy Gose series. We primarily brew beer for our two Barbarian taprooms, so your best bet to find our beer is to visit our Garden City Brewery and Taproom or our Downtown Boise Taproom.

Our mission is to create delicious, complex, artisan ales and lagers. We draw inspiration from old world traditions but also strive to innovate and create new styles and techniques.

  • Danger Sunset. Red and gold sour bases aged in barrel for one year with brettanomyces and lactobacillus and finished with strawberry and coconut puree.
BA Style Category: Wood- and Barrel-Aged Sour Beer: Fruited

  • Saison avec Brett Deux. We used family grown alfalfa hay and buckwheat husks as a filter in our mash tun for the wheat heavy grain bill from Mecca Grade Estate Malt. The beer was then fermented with a blend of Saison yeast and brettanomyces, then fermented in red wine barrels. We finished the Saison Avec Brett Deux with a touch of strawberries and a bit of lavender.

Alesong Brewing and Blending

About Alesong Brewing And Blending:

Alesong Brewing and Blending is a small artisan brewery based in the heart of Southern Willamette Valley wine country that crafts unique and small-batch beers with a focus on oak aging and Belgian-inspired techniques, brewing both wild and non-wild beers, using locally grown fruits, herbs and a host of special yeasts and other microbes.  Once the beer in the barrels has matured, the team samples and selects each barrel individually to blend. Paying homage to old-world Lambic blenders and artisan winemakers, Alesong believes that the final, balanced blend of a barrel-aged beer is much more satisfying than the sum of its parts or each individual barrel by itself. For more information, visit alesongbrewing.com.

  • Señor Rhino. Señor Rhino is inspired by Mexican hot chocolate and we think is on par with some pretty well known American made beers of this type: beers like Cigar City's Hunahpu and Perrenial's Abraxis.  For this beer, we started with our base Imperial Milk stout. Prior to aging, it's rich, decadent, and creamy with just a hint of roast and a boatload of chocolaty malt flavors. We aged that for about 6 months in freshly dumped Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels, layering on flavors of vanilla and a hint of cinnamon and a slight warmth from the alcohol.
BA Style Category: Wood- and Barrel-Aged Strong Stout

  • Touch of Brett Citra. This dry, French-style Saison was fermented with Brettanomyces Lambicus for a fruity and spicy experience. After aging, it was dry-hopped liberally with Citra hops to complement the orange, grapefruit, and earthy flavors that evolved during the aging time in Pinot barrels.

Ninkasi Brewing Company

About Ninkasi Brewing Company

Founded in 2006 by Jamie Floyd and Nikos Ridge, Ninkasi Brewing Company continues to grow from its first batch of Total Domination IPA, to two brewhouses, a 55-barrel and a 90-barrel brewhouse, located in Eugene, Ore.  Ninkasi’s Flagship beers are sold throughout Alaska; Alberta; Arizona; California; Colorado; Idaho; Nevada; Oregon; Washington; and Vancouver, British Columbia. The brewery remains privately-owned and is committed to community support and giving. Ninkasi’s Beer Is Love program offers in-kind donations and support for organizations throughout its footprint.

  • Juicy Domination. Step outside and sink your feet into the crisp, golden sand. Can you smell the slightly sweet, succulence in the air? Juicy Domination is a swirling riptide of papaya, orange, and guava notes bursting all around. It’s an explosion of flavor that finishes smooth and velvety, just like your favorite tropical adventure.
BA Style Category: India Pale Ale: Juicy or Hazy

  • Pilsner. A drop of rain at the top of the Cascades takes seven years to filter down into the McKenzie River and arrive at our brewery. It takes another 52 days to brew a batch of Pilsner. It’s a tedious job, but one sip of this sweet and light, crisp and complex Pils and you’ll know why it’s worth the wait.
    BA Style Category: Pilsener: German-Style

Fremont Brewing Company

About Fremont Brewing

Fremont Brewing is a family-owned craft brewery founded in 2009 to brew artisan beers made with the best local ingredients we can find. Our beer is distributed in kegs, cans, and 22 oz. bottles and can be enjoyed every day at our kid- and dog-friendly Urban Beer Garden in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood. Because Beer Matters!

  • Chocolate, Vanilla, Maple Syrup Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Star. This year’s release is a blend of 24, 18, 12, and 8-month Bourbon Barrel-Aged Dark Star in 7-12-year old Kentucky bourbon barrels. The roasted and chocolate malts complement the smooth oats to bring you a stout delight wrapped in the gentle embrace of bourbon barrel-aged warmth. A touch of sweetness dances in balance with the hops to finish with a wave, and then she’s gone.
BA Style Category: Wood - and Barrel-Aged Strong Stout

  • Horizon. Complex and very tart, Horizon has aromas of barnyard, tropical fruit, berry, and white grape; the tart flavor is balanced with light bitterness and a slightly sweet finish.
BA Style Category: Ale: Other Belgian- or French-Style

Stoup Brewing Company

About Stoup Brewing Company

Opened in 2013 by husband-and-wife team Brad Benson and Lara Zahaba together with Robyn Schumacher – Stoup is a lifelong dream realized by three friends who love all things food and drink. More than a family-friendly brewery, the taproom is a place that embraces the fundamental essence of beer: a means of bringing people together, one pint at a time. Each of the trio left behind “safer” careers to realize their dream of opening a brewery: Lara, nearly two decades in marketing and PR for wine importers; Brad, a career as a forensic chemist ; Robyn, 13 years as a high school teacher. Collectively, they believe in the community building nature of beer while individually each bring a unique perspective that makes Stoup such a special place.

  • Mosaic Pale Ale. A highly drinkable, hop forward beer with a classic American Pale Ale malt bill. Heavy handed Mosaic dry hopping gives this beer a nose packed full of citrus and mango. Up front aroma, balanced bittering and a moderate body just beg for another taste...and another...and another...
BA Style Category: Pale Ale: American-Style

  • Schwarzbier. Thanks to a base of pilsner malt, Munich malt and a touch of dark, roasted malt, our take on the German black lager is a moderately dry lager with a mouthwatering roastiness. It's the perfect hybrid of malt flavor and lager crispness.
    BA Style Category: Schwarzbier: German-Style
