Event Details

Join us next Wednesday at our Ballard taproom for a 3-way collaboration beer release of “Smitty’s Surprise IPA”, brewed by Ninkasi Brewing with us and our friends at Russian River Brewing. The gangs from Ninkasi and Bale Breaker will be hanging out, and we’ll be featuring Smitty’s Surprise IPA, alongside fresh Bale Breaker beers and a keg of Russian River’s Pliny the Elder IPA. (BALLARD TAPROOM ONLY)

About the beer: This collaboration west coast IPA comes in at 7% ABV. Medium gold, highlights tropical, peachy, and berry notes from the four types of hops used to brew the beer. Brewed and packaged by Ninkasi in Eugene, OR - available for a limited time at our taprooms.

The story: Ever since Smitty started brewing, he's been saying Vinnie Cilurzo with Russian River and Jamie Floyd with Ninkasi are his brewer idols. A few years ago (and after a few beers), Smitty confessed his dream of one day brewing with them. That stuck with Jamie, so a few years later, he and Vinnie hatched a plan to surprise Smitty with a 3-way collab between Ninkasi, Russian River, and Bale Breaker. We got Smitty to Eugene by telling him we needed him to attend a Brewers Night, and Jamie and the crew were waiting at the bar to surprise him. The next day, Smitty's dream of finally brewing beer with his brewing industry idols came true, and Smitty's Surprise IPA was born.

Guests include Ninkasi Brewing’s co-founder Jamie Floyd, Kevin “Smitty” Smith, along with someone from Russian River Brewing, and, of course, the rest of the staff and family from Bale Breaker Brewing.
