A Story of What Came Before

WHY STRANGE FELLOWS?

As expectant parents often struggle to find the perfect name for their unborn child, Aaron and Iain laboured to come up with a suitable name for their fledgling brewery. Finally, after months of hashing over lists of names, unable to agree upon a single one, someone declared that they were "just like the odd couple". The rest as they say is history.

From its inception, Strange Fellows has been about a blending of ideas and histories with a common vision: that two strangers can have a beer together, look each other in the eye and toast each other's good health.

"Under the warm, inclusive umbrella that is the enjoyment of a very fine pint, Strange Fellows seeks to unify its corner of the world, one beer at a time. Patrons from all walks, each with a distinct and valuable story just waiting to flow into the communal conversation, congregate in a space where difference is part of the fabric of the operation and is not just celebrated, but encouraged. The familiar and the strange coexist here, figuratively, as we have described, but literally too, in the line-up of available brews." - Chris Dagenais, East Van Foodie

While Strange Fellows is known for sour and barrel-aged beers, we also brew a broad range of styles, from hoppy and sessionable ales and stouts of all strengths, to traditional Belgians, crisp and classic pilsners, and seasonal fruit beers.

Our brewers' fondness for experimentation and diverse techniques and ingredients is evident in our barrel programme that produces unique limites releases sour, blended and vintage beers.
