5/10/2018 Portland, OR - The 8th annual 2018 Portland Beer Week presented by PSU's The Business of Craft Beer program and Loyal Legion beer hall returns this June 7-17th as an 11-day celebration of craft beer in the greatest beer city on earth. Today, Portland Beer Week organizers announce a number of marquee events with tickets on sale now for the Kickoff Party at the Oregon Zoo, Seminar Series and popular returning annual events like the Portland Beer and Cheese Festival and closing event SNACKDOWN!

Portland Beer Week is a small grassroots organization dedicated to presenting creative events that celebrate and explore the multi-faceted world of craft beer. Events take place city-wide with both local, national and international brands representing with events still rolling out at local bars, restaurants, retail stores, parks and storefronts. 

These are just a few of the many dozens of events that will appear on the beer week calendar over the next few weeks.

KICKOFF PARTY with the OREGON ZOO

Thurs. June 7th 4pm - 9pm $35 Tickets

For the largest kickoff party yet, Portland Beer Week is teaming with the Oregon Zoo on a beer celebration to end all beer parties! The 2018 Portland Beer Week Kickoff Party will showcase t 20+ craft beer and cider makers near the zoo concert lawn, local food carts, live entertainment, ax throwing, activities, photo ops, crafts and inspirational animal sightings, all happening in the beautiful setting of the zoo.

The event will feature breweries Dirty Pretty Brewing Co., Von Ebert Brewing, Breakside Brewery, Stormbreaker Brewing, pFriem Family Brewers and Portland Cider Co., along with food carts Hotlips Pizza & Soda and MorningStar Farms Food Truck. Activities include Portland Axe Throwing, photo booth, ring toss, cornhole, ladderball, washers, giant jenga, giant connect four and music by DJ Saul.

The party will be open to the public and people of all ages, though to consume alcohol you must be 21 or older with a valid ID and event ticket. Guests will have the unique experience of being able to drink excellent craft beers and ciders while enjoying animal displays and checking out the elephant pool party. 

Ticket cost $34.95 and include zoo admission, access to beverage vendors, a souvenir glass and four beer tickets, each redeemable for a 7-ounce pour of beer. Kids and designated drivers get into the zoo at regular ticket prices. Carousel and train rides will be available for an additional fee.

The Oregon Zoo encourages visitors to take public transport to the zoo, which is located five minutes from downtown Portland, and is accessible by MAX light rail line. Call TriMet Customer Service, 503-238-RIDE (7433), or visit trimet.org for fare and route information.

PORTLAND FRUIT BEER FESTIVAL

The Portland Fruit Beer Festival is the world's largest celebration of craft fruit beers and returns to central innner eastside of Portland this June 8-10th, 2018. The lineup includes more than fifty exotic fruit beers in a wide variety of beer styles from sour ales to IPA's, lagers, stouts and everything inbetween. Brewers near and far dust off their boots and try out an eclectic diverse selection of fruits from the classics like cherries, raspberries and orange to the tropical guava and pineapple and even obscure like cacao fruit and salmon berry. 

The Portland Fruit Beer Festival is all-ages with non-alcoholic beverages like fruit sodas and food options like Ice Cream, Pizza, Bratwurst and Pretzels to name a few options. The fest is audibly scored to some of the areas finest DJ's spinning records live and there is both covered and outdoor areas to the fest.

Friday evening 4-9pm is a preview session with a slightly smaller space and beer list (still 20+ beers and ciders pouring)

Saturday and Sunday the festival encompasses two lots and the street between them on N. 7th and Burnside. More than 30 beers and ciders will be pouring at any time with 3-4 taps of rotating rare and special tappings. 

SEMINAR SERIES
Mon, Tues., Wed., Thurs. Fri. June 11-15th

Portland Beer Week is proud to present the fun and educational seminar series which explores everything from tasting beer to sour and barrel-aged beer production, building a brand and starting a brewery without a brewhouse or space of your own. Each seminar takes place a different day of the week and advanced tickets are now available.

PORTLAND BEER and CHEESE FESTIVAL

Sat. June 16th Noon-3pm $36

The 7th annual Portland Beer and Cheese Fest produced by Portland Beer Week and Cheese Bar and Chizu owner Steve Jones is the premiere event of it's kind! This years carefully curated fest will be held Saturday June 16th at The Bindery Annex building, home to Culmination Brewing. This beer and pairing invitational festival features ten creameries paired with ten breweries, plus artisan chocolate, charcuterie and more hand-crafted snacks that pair beautifully with beer. Each ticket gets you all ten hand curated and paired beer and cheese pairings by master Cheesemonger Steve Jones. Complimentary chocolate tasting and charcuterie while supplies last. SNACKDOWN!

Sun. June 17th 1-4pm $49

Portland Beer Week & Gigantic Brewing present SNACKDOWN! on Sunday June 17th at The Evergreen event space above Loyal Legion. SNACKDOWN! is a fun and entertaining food and beer pairing event where 10 of Portland's best Chefs and 10 Oregon Brewers are paired into 10 Brewer/Chef teams to make their greatest snack and beer pairing. Guests will choose their favorite pairing and the winners will be awarded the SNACKDOWN Belt!

This event is designed to be more fun and loose than you're standard beer dinner. Imagine a WWF style Smackdown with brewers and chefs hyping their pairing on the mic - possibly while sporting wrestling themed costume. DJ Rev Shines will be on the decks keeping the party live. $49 includes all 10 small plates and TEN 5oz beer pours + a collectible glass.
