About

Great Notion Brewing is a Portland, Oregon-based brewery focused on creating juicy, hazy IPA’s and culinary-inspired sours and stouts. We currently have a 7 bbl brewpub at 2204 NE Alberta St and a 30 bbl production brewery at 2444 NW 28th Ave. (not open to the public yet except for our Saturday #canreleases). We plan on opening our NW 28th brewpub mid-to-late 2018.

Our barrel program offers award-winning American sour ales aged for 9-24 months in oak barrels. A portion of our sour ales are blended with Summer Oregon fruit like peaches, apricots, strawberries, and cherries. Freshly emptied Bourbon barrels age our imperial stouts on ingredients like roasted coffee, vanilla beans, chocolate, and maple syrup.

When it comes to brewing creative craft beer, we realize the immense talent within this city. We’ve been inspired by many, in Portland and beyond. We wouldn’t be here without the brewers who came before us, those who took chances, tried something new, and shared their experience.

The Great Notion cofounders are: James Dugan, Andy Miller, and Paul Reiter.  The creative and delicious food menu at Great Notion Brewing was created by our chef and longtime friend, Ryan O'Connor.
