Boxing Day. Heard of it? Yeah, many have. But did you know that it’s a holiday for the help? That’s right, the day after Christmas when the hierarchical elites have celebrated the 25th, the servants get their chance to celebrate. Course to many capitalists, the name Boxing Day is often associated with gift returns and shopping for what you really wanted. But what about Crate Day? Now’s there a holiday that a select few have heard of.

A day to celebrate the start of Summer, in New Zealand, Crate Day is the day when Kiwis purchase a crate of beer to share with a mate. The equivalent of 30 standard drinks, NZ station The Rock and one of their announcers, Duncan Heyde, isn’t encouraging one person to down the lot. Instead he could be considered the unofficial prime minister of Summer, during a time when everyone needs a moment to celebrate.

The day was launched on The Rock as an event for everyone to celebrate.

“Turns out it resonated massively with Kiwis”, Heyde opined by back 2016

So you’re probably asking, what’s this got to do with us in North America, where it’s starting to freeze, not warm? Ah, the answer comes in the form of December 5th, when Vancouver (British Columbia) brewery, Container, celebrates this oddball tradition.

As the brewery puts it.

Our friend and co-worker, Brendan, has brought this tradition to us from his home land and we want to share it with you.

Say hello to The Container Crate, available at a select number of our liquor store partners (list below) and in our lounge on December 3rd, just in time for Crate Day. Drink them all on crate day with your housemates or enjoy them over the holiday season. Twelve different styles in one box; ales, lager, sours, nitro!

Included in this Crate are the following Container Brewing beers.
