Farmstrong Brewing converts to 100% Skagit Valley Malt in all of its beers.

Word has arrived from Skagit Valley's own Farmstrong Brewing, their commitment to only sourcing locally-grown malt is finally a reality with the recent announcement of their partnership with Skagit Valley Malts.

Started in late-2015, Farmstrong Brewing Company was founded by owners Dan Cameron, Mike Armstrong and Todd Owsley. Despite the three-way ownership, the brewery was unified on a simple goal of demonstrating a brewery can go beyond providing local and regional customers with thought-provoking ales and lagers, by supporting Skagit Valley through mentorship at nearby Skagit Valley College's Craft Brewing Academy, or through sourcing relationships with Skagit Valley Malting. The end result has been beers that are as unique as the Skagit Valley the brewery resides in.

But a goal started years ago was still out of their reach, of only using locally-grown grains, until recently - 100% of malt, sourced from the Skagit Valley. For almost four years, this goal of acquiring only local grains, was just that, a goal - until this year.

Through their relationship with the maltsters of Skagit Valley Malts, Farmstrong Brewing is happy to announce the upcoming beers brewed in March will be using nothing but Skagit Valley Malts.

As of March 1st, 2019, all our beer is now made from local grain. We've spent the last year working hand-in-hand with local farmers and maltsters to transfer the entirety of our recipes to 100% Skagit Valley Malt. Every glass of Farmstrong beer now comes from grain that was grown, malted, and brewed within a 10-mile radius. This "estate brewing" aspect allows us to do something incredibly unique in the beer industry: showcase the terroir of our land. Crafting award-winning beer while remaining agriculturally-independent is no longer a dream, but a reality.

Under the supervision of head brewer Thane Tupper, former brewer at Mac & Jack's, Elysian, and pFriem; the brewery has maintained its commitment to producing beers that locals and loyalists have grown to love.

"It's been a lot of work but it was worth it," says Thane. "As a brewer, I'm excited for new challenges and this one was very important to me and the rest of the team."

In the near future be on the lookout for all Farmstrong Brewing beers including their Valley Gold, proudly displaying "Grown Here. Malted Here. Brewed Here".
