EUGENE, OR: From July 25th to 31st, 2019, Eugene’s Alesong Brewing and Blending will co-host a Farmhouse-themed bike ride through Belgium and France— countries that have inspired many of their barrel-aged creations. And indeed a visit to their wine country tasting room reflects a Pacific Northwest version of some of those same Belgian and French countryside feelings that will be viewed on the tour. For this event, they’ll be teaming up with Beercycling, a company founded in 2011 by Oregonian Evan Cohan to lead cycling and beer tours across Europe.
“Ever since my first trip to Belgium in 2009, I have vowed to bring people to this amazing beer filled land”, says cofounder, Matt Van Wyk. “And now I have this rare opportunity, along with Beercycling, to take a pedal around the country I fell in love with a decade ago and share it with my Alesong fans and friends.”
The trip covers the Belgian Province of Hainaut, along with the French region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais, to which the Saison and Bier de Garde beer styles originate. The tour will include visits to at least 9 breweries, many of them traditional farmhouse beer producers located in rural countryside locations. The tour starts in the European cultural capital of Mons and ends in the hop growing region of Poperinge, Belgium. The trip is great for bikers of all skill levels and will combine the perfect balance of Belgian and French beer/food, culture, history, and geography. Tour itinerary, pricing, and registration can be found at www.beercycling.com/farmhouse.

ABOUT ALESONG BREWING AND BLENDING: Alesong Brewing and Blending is a small artisan brewery based in the heart of Southern Willamette Valley wine country that crafts unique and small-batch beers with a focus on oak aging and Belgian-inspired techniques, brewing both wild and non-wild beers, using locally grown fruits, herbs and a host of special yeasts and other microbes. Once the beer in the barrels has matured, the team samples and selects each barrel individually to blend. Paying homage to old-world Lambic blenders and artisan winemakers, Alesong believes that the final, balanced blend of a barrel-aged beer is much more satisfying than the sum of its parts or each individual barrel by itself.
