Team Steam is celebrating a big night at this year’s 2017 Canadian Brewing Awards. Held last Saturday May 27th in Ottawa, the CBAs are the only nationally sanctioned beer award ceremony and see over thousands of entries from hundreds of breweries across the country.
Steamworks did their part to help represent B.C. craft breweries by taking home 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal at the event, one of only 4 breweries to win multiple gold medals. The first gold was in the “French and Belgian Style Saison” category, where Steamworks won for their collaboration brew (East of East Van Saison) with fellow Burnaby brewers, Dageraad Brewing. The second gold was in the “American Style Black Ale” category, where Steamworks Black Angel IPA took home top honours. The Black Angel is a seasonal favourite for Steamworks fans, found in their Winter Mash-Up mix pack. Steamworks brewpub also won a bronze medal for their British royal visit themed Commonwealth Ale.
Steamworks brewmaster Julia Hanlon expanded on the win: "We're thrilled to be included in such fine company, there's so many amazing craft breweries across our province and country and we're honoured to be recognized among them!"
The 3 medal showing continued what has been an impressive run at beer award shows for Steamworks. Their Flagship IPA recently took home ‘Best-In-Show’ and ‘Best IPA’ at the BC Craft Beer Awards in October.
