McMenamins celebrates the release of Devils Bit Whiskey with 2 days of events, from March 17th - March 18th.
As the Irish tale goes, the devil took a bite from a mountain in North Tipperary, Ireland, and spit it out. The bite-sized gap became its defining characteristic and local townspeople named the mountain Devil’s Bit. In honor of the legend, and the venerated tradition of hand-crafted Irish spirits, McMenamins created Devils Bit whiskey. It is released each year on St. Patrick’s Day and available while it lasts. -McMenamins Devils Bit

Starting March 17th and running through March 18th, McMenamins breweries are celebrating St. Patrick's Day. We won't bore you with a bunch of original words, strung together in a sentence. Except to say this, pick one.

In addition to events throughout the Pacific Northwest, McMenamins is happy to announces the release of Devils Bit Whiskey.

For the first time ever McMenamins will be selling two versions of Devils Bit Whiskey this year: One aged four years in a charred oak barrel from Cornelius Pass Roadhouse Distillery, and one aged eight years from Edgefield Distillery.
Edgefield Distillery Devils Bit
46% ABV, 92 proof
812 bottles produced

The 2017 edition of our Devils Bit Whiskey was distilled from our “Ananda” recipe. In Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, Ananda means ‘an extreme happiness, one of the highest states of being.’ As a white (or clear) spirit, the “Ananda” recipe produces roasty, malty flavors with a strong dark chocolate note. This leads to great results for long-term aging, so we put aside the first barrel of this recipe in 2009 and now it’s time for this special whiskey to see the light of day.

Cornelius Pass Roadhouse Distillery Devils Bit
48.5% ABV, 97 proof
1,025 bottles produced

Based on Philosopher’s Stone, a favorite beer recipe from CPR’s long and colorful past, this version of Devils Bit is made with four different types of malt that give it a bold and complex grain profile. Four years in a new charred American oak barrel allowed these flavors to mellow and mature before it was finished in a Zinfandel port barrel from the Edgefield Winery, adding finesse and layers of berry and stone fruit nuance.
