BEND, OR ... Crux Fermentation Project’s Co-Founder and Master Brewer, Larry Sidor, is proud to announce the development of a new fresh hop IPA paying homage to the late Dr. Jack Horner, a celebrated OSU Alum and Professor. Dr. Horner passed away in 2015 at the age of 90.

Dr. Jack Fresh Hop IPA celebrates the famed Cascade Hop, originally developed by Dr. Horner in 1956 and released for cultivation in 1971. Named after the Cascade Mountain Range, Cascade was the first commercial hop variety released by the USDA breeding program at Oregon State University. Known for its distinctive flowery, spicy and citrus-like qualities, Cascade is widely considered to be the hop that inspired the craft beer revolution. Due to its massive popularity, Cascade has found its way into ales brewed around the globe in a wide variety of countries such as Argentina, Belgium, Poland and New Zealand.

Larry Sidor, a 1972 graduate of Oregon State’s Food Science Program, has been a career-long fan of Dr. Jack Horner and first brewed with the Cascade hop over 40 years ago at Olympia Brewery in Tumwater, WA. “We’re extremely lucky to have the opportunity of working with a wide variety of hops at Crux— many of which are rare experimentals grown in various parts of the world. But, for me, nothing tops brewing a fresh hop IPA to honor a fellow Beaver. Dr. Jack is one of the greatest in the industry.”

Dr. Jack Fresh Hop IPA, 6.9% ABV and 50 IBUs, is slated to be released as a draft-only offering the week of September 26th throughout Oregon and Washington and will be a featured offering in Reser Stadium’s new 3,000-square-foot “Terrace” specializing in Oregon-based food and beverages.
