SEATTLE (April 20, 2016) - In honor of International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day (IWCBD), the Seattle chapter of the Pink Boots Society is excited to announce the release of four woman-brewed collaboration beers. All brewed on March 8, with four area breweries acting as the brew sites for the day, women from more than 20 Seattle-area breweries banded together to have some fun and sharing brewing duties for the day. Release of these four women-brewed beers will take place this Thursday, April 21 at 6:30pm at Dog & Pony in Renton.
“Pink Boots Society provides women in the brewing industry with such a unique opportunity to connect, share information and make friends,” said Kimberly Cook, brewer at Two Beers Brewing. “Being able to open our doors once a year and brew together not only strengthens the camaraderie created by this group, but shows how amazing and supportive our local breweries are.”
A yearly effort spearheaded by Pink Boot Society, the style chosen for the 2016 International Women’s Brew Day was Gose, with each brewery given the option to brew the style or something similar. Seattle brew locations for the day included Two Beers Brewing Company, Hilliard’s, Reuben’s Brews and Elysian Brewing, with women from Optimism, Fish Brewing, Fremont Brewing, Spinnaker Bay Brewing, Peddler Brewing, Pike Brewing and more all participating.
“I love that there is a day for us ladies to all get together and be reminded that there is a hidden sisterhood in the brewing industry,” said Erykah McCarty, Operations, at Hilliards. “For the first few years at Hilliard's, I was the only female employee and I know there are plenty of gals out there that feel like the brewing world is a boy’s club. Having groups like the Pink Boots Society and days like IWCBD are wonderful encouragements that we belong in our chosen field: beer!”
Beers brewed as part of this year’s International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day and now available on draft at various accounts throughout Seattle include:
Two Beers Brewing “Gose to the Limits”: Enjoy coriander on the nose followed by
lemon tartness from our lactobacillus starter and 8-lbs of fresh lemon, finishing with a taste of salt. 5% ABV, 10 IBUs
Reuben’s Brews: We added hibiscus to play with the tartness of our base beer. The hibiscus adds a cranberry like flavor while adding to the brew a beautiful bright red. 4% ABV, 6 IBUs
Elysian Brewing "Beauty School Dropout” Gose: This was brewed with Pale, Wheat, and Biscuit malts, Salt, a handful of Magnum hops, and the juice of 400 pounds of strawberries and kiwis. 3.5% ABV, 5 IBUs
Hilliards Dunkelweizen: Hilliards and team crafted a dunkel. Their dark wheat beer with a surprisingly light body and crisp finish adds hints of banana and clove on the nose. 4.8% ABV, 18 IBUs
Release of these beers at Dog and Pony Alehouse in Renton will take place Thursday, April 21st at 6:30pm, with all four beers on tap for the evening. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Pink Boots Society scholarship seeking to empower women beer professionals advance their careers within the beer industry through education. All four beers will also be available at Seattle Beer Week’s fifth annual Women in Beer event, held Monday, May 16 from 5-9pm at Pike Brewing Company.
