SAN LEANDRO, CA ... – Every craft-beer drinker has a guilty pleasure and for 21st Amendment Brewmaster Shaun O’Sullivan, it’s Mexican-style lagers. Having grown up on the beaches of southern California, O’Sullivan often enjoyed Mexican-style golden and refreshing beers at the end of each day. El Sully is just that: a crisp, refreshing, bright beer with a spicy aroma. The beer made its debut last fall in 21st Amendment’s first ever 12 pack variety pack and is now available year round on draft and in six pack cans.
Who is El Sully? Named for Brewmaster O’Sullivan’s alter ego, it’s brewed with Pilsner and Vienna malts, flaked maize and Mexican lager yeast to create a bright, refreshing flavor that rings in at a drinkable 4.8% ABV and 19 IBUs.
“You are El Sully when you choose to have a craft beer from an independent brewery,” O’Sullivan said. “You are El Sully when you take a different beer to the party, you are El Sully when you try something other than an IPA. Be El Sully.”
“We’ve been brewing this beer at our San Francisco pub for several years now, so the graduation to its very own six pack makes us feel like proud parents”, co-founder Nico Freccia added. “We all love IPAs and other full flavored and complex beers but sometimes you need an antidote to the big beers that dominate our craft beer palates.”
Six packs of El Sully are now available year round and in all 25 of 21st Amendment’s current distribution territories, including CA, OR, WA, AK, ID, MN, OH, ME, NH, VT, RI, MA, NY, NJ, DC, DE, MD, PA, VA, GA, NV, NC, SC and IL.

In 2000, Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan opened the doors to the 21st Amendment brewpub in San Francisco’s historic South Park neighborhood with Freccia managing the restaurant and O’Sullivan spearheading the brewing process. In addition to quickly becoming one of the city’s favorite pubs, 21st Amendment began expanding beyond the Bay Area by helping to pioneer the movement to canned craft beer. Known for their witty names and delicious brews, 21st Amendment offers year round selections, as well as seasonal offerings and their infamous ‘Insurrection Series’, a once-in-a-while limited edition release. Today, 21st Amendment operates out of its new San Leandro brewery headquarters and is among the top 50 craft beer brewers in America and is sold in 24 states.
