Press Release

Smoky, spooky Rauch Lager is back on tap at Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen at 601 W. Holly St, Bellingham. This unusual lager beer is brewed at Chuckanut  in the summer for barbecues but this year the brewers have decided to treat everyone to some smoky Halloween beer fun!

Chuckanut Rauch is a Marzen lager style with its deep amber color and malt forward flavors led by a pronounced smoky aroma and taste. As the beer ages the smokiness becomes more subdued and settles into the overall flavors. Originally introduced in Bamberg, Germany the beer utilizes malted barley that has been smoked with beechwood from the forests around the town. Chuckanut’s Rauch uses Weyermann smoked beechwood malts to give it a smooth, smoky malty flavor. This is a beer that’s great with food, any food including mac & cheese with smoked salmon, or a beer braised brat, or even a bacon bleu cheese salad that picks up on the smokiness of the bacon. Catch this unusual beer before it disappears!

Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen, located at 601 West Holly St, was awarded the National Small Brewpub/Brewer of the Year 2009 and National Small Brewery/Brewer of the Year 2011 at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, CO.
